From Olive's Place Dove and Pigeon Sanctuary: A tiny Roller Pigeon was found too weak to fly. He is extremely emaciated under those fluffed feathers (one of the worst I've personally treated) and I'm surprised that he made it this far. He is struggling but trying to rally with supportive care, and I'm monitoring closely - checking at least every hour. Starvation cases are very delicate, as their little bodies are already shutting down. Birds have very fast metabolisms, so they waste away quickly. I find these cases especially upsetting because these are birds who would be relatively easy to save initially, and I know they have been desperate and suffering.
I will always take a medically fragile emergency - but I'd like to ask anyone who might tag me on local social media posts to please please please NOT do that. It rarely leads to a bird getting help. Instead, you can drop a link to my website, www. olivesplace. org 🕊️ I have basic information there - and my contact email is there too.
Members of the public often post found pets and injured wildlife without any intention of taking action. The posts also fill up with bad advice and misinformation. I'm not a member of community groups, so usually cannot post a reply. The vast majority of tags end up being time consuming and heartbreaking, and my energy is burned up with nothing to show for it. If you instead link to my website, the OP can choose to read that information or not, and contact me or not - but I cannot afford the energy to beg people to help.
