Garden Ridge Youth Ministry

Garden Ridge Youth Ministry Do justice, Love mercy, Walk humbly with your God :: Micah 6:8 We provide a wide variety of services to students 6th-12th grade and their families.

GRYM is the youth ministry of Garden Ridge church of Christ (GRCC) in Lewisville, TX (about 20 miles NW of Dallas). While we enjoy spending time together, going to ball games, Six Flags, and concerts, messing around and playing Capture the Flag!, or whatever, our main purpose is to encounter Christ together.

So very proud of how our amazing GRYM team is loving & serving this week in Abilene!! Yesterday we were blessed to serve with City Light Community Ministries & Christian Homes & Family Services, then had a special time of worship at Jacob’s Dream. There are many more pictures to come & we are headed out on another day of service!! ❤️

More Adventure Camp 2024 mayhem! Tons of fun had and memories made, but I think what I love most is seeing the students challenging themselves to do things that scare them to death. What you're seeing takes lots of courage, especially for many of our younger students who've never done these types of things. But with lots of cheers and encouragement from their GRYM family, EVERY. SINGLE. ONE ended up making the jump! They were so proud of themselves, and so were we!

Powerful moments from Adventure Camp 2024! There were many more I didn't film: more incredible worship, moving testimonies from some of our leaders, etc. But seeing the teens serving each other Communion, covering a wall with names of who God is to them, and throwing themselves into worship is truly beautiful!

Adventure Camp 2024 was EPIC! Fighting, wrecking each other with balls, climbing the walls, swinging from the ceiling...that's how GRYM has a good time!

The last couple of days of work (and fun). This crew worked so hard, fast, and unified that we crushed two big projects at the Food Bank today. Then we enjoyed an evening swim.
That, plus some really special group time of worship, building each other up, and praying for each other, and it's been the perfect end to an incredible mission trip!

Parents, your kids are wonderful and have represented God beautifully!

Can I just say, OKLAHOMA MISSION TRIP IS ONE OF MY ULTIMATE FAVES!
It's so inspiring to see the great work these teens did today!

It started at the Luther Community Center. This amazing organization distributes food and has a "store" where families can shop for clothes and household items FOR FREE. We are honored to be part of their generous work every time we come to OKC. This time, it also involved a reading time with kids. That was probably just as special for us as it was for them!

Then half of us went to the Food Bank to package individual meals. After almost 2000 meals packaged, we had to stop because we'd packaged all that they had. They couldn't believe we'd gone through the entire pallet of food and gotten so much done!

The other half helped an incredible lady at her thrift store. God has brought her through unimaginable trauma, so she uses her stores as a ministry. Here's the link to an older story (2022, before she married and became Delisa Herbert) that gives a sample of the good she does:

We always look forward to supporting her when we're here. The team were a huge help to her today, and we'll be back doing more tomorrow (including making over 200 lunches to give her homeless friends).

I'll share more when I get pictures from those who went.

Please pray for these great works:
Luther Community Center. (Including Chris and Joe)
Second Chances Thrift Store. (Delisa Herbert)
Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. (Chandra, Blair, and Mallory)

They are the real deal, doing so much good!

Monday, we spent time praying over the park area we'll be using this week to do sports and art and other activities with the local kids to help Refuge Church cultivate meaningful relationships there for long-term ministry. We also met lots of extremely friendly, receptive neighbors as we canvased to tell them about the day camp we're doing. New Orleans is so beautiful and historically rich, but the people are by far the city's best feature!

We then did some cleanup as a way to invest in their neighborhoods...including digging the trash and debris from the storm drains to prevent flooding. The heat made the work especially draining, but every single missionary worked with a stellar attitude!

It's obvious that Refuge Church's careful, thoughtful, organic relationship-building in this area--from kids activities to cleanup efforts to members moving into these neighborhoods to "do life" with them--has earned the church so much rapport and is giving people a greater appreciation for Jesus. It's really an honor to be part of their service to this area.

Church in an actual Voo Doo "healing center" that also serves as a night club/bar, then praying our way through the center and surrounding neighborhood: certainly a uniquely New Orleans Sunday!
It was enlightening and educational, but more than anything, it showed us the importance of what we're doing here. People are hurting and looking for the same things we are, and many have turned to some radical, hurtful things to find joy, peace, assurance, acceptance, security, control, and empowerment. We get to share the gospel, the good news of true joy, peace, assurance, acceptance, security, and empowerment when God is in control!

Adventure started before we even got to New Orleans! The van had some strange tire trouble, but by God's kindness, we had just the right team to deal with it and had the trouble in the perfect place to get it fixed without hassle. It delayed our trip a bit, but not much, and we arrived in time for a delicious meal with the Grace Chapel Youth. We ended the night getting to know them and spend time worshiping together. How special to bring some of my very favorite people (GRYM!) to meet my brother and nephew and some of their favorite people (GC Youth)!
