The Miss Black USA Talented Teen Pageant is the little sister organization Miss Black USA. The pageant was created to encourage positive identity development, talent development and showcase, civic engagement and leadership for girls ages 14-19. Miss Black USA Talented Teen celebrates the talents and achievements of its state titleholders through its annual national pageant and through the awarding of a 4-year, full tuition scholarship and career opportunities.

This past weekend, I had the incredible honor of serving as a judge for the Miss Juneteenth Dallas-Fort Worth Pageant—the very pageant that started it all for me.

Watching the contestants take the stage brought back so many memories because just three years ago, I was sitting on the opposite side of the table, competing for the same title and dreaming about what my future could look like. To now stand here as Miss Black USA Talented Teen and help crown the beautiful Iyana Schuman is truly a full-circle moment.

Moments like this remind me how far I’ve come and how important it is to pour back into the organizations and communities that helped shape me. I am so grateful for every lesson, opportunity, and experience that has led me to this point.

Congratulations, Iyana! I can’t wait to see all that you accomplish during your reign. 👑✨

Honored to spend time in New York City celebrating the 101st Annual Commemoration of the life and legacy of Malcolm X while also witnessing the release and discussion of Illyasah Shabazz’s newest book. Being in a space filled with history, education, culture, and powerful conversations was truly inspiring.

Moments like these remind me of the importance of knowing our history, honoring those who paved the way, and continuing to learn from the stories that shape our communities. Grateful for the opportunity to be present, listen, and reflect on a legacy that continues to impact generations around the world.
