Lakeside Arts Foundation invites Lewisville ISD High School Juniors and Seniors, intending to major in any arts-related field, to participate in Scholarship Art Contest at Chalk This Way to earn one of three possible scholarships. Contestants will be given a 6 x 6 foot area of concrete and professional quality chalk, to create a work of art, in six hours. The First Place scholarship is $1,200, Second Place is $700 and Third Place is $500.
Chalk This Way, at ColorPalooza, takes place on April 27, 2024 outside Lewisville City Hall from 10 AM to 5 PM. In addition to the scholarship contest, this day-long event features a professional chalk artist exhibit, amateur chalk art gallery, a children’s gallery, interactive art activities for children, art and food vendors, Eco-Alley, art demonstrations by professional artists, and live performances by cultural groups and musicians.
There is no entry fee for the scholarship contest, but student artists are asked to submit the application and a full-color, sketched rendering of their planned work by April 19, 2023.
Scholarship winners will be announced online on the Sunday following the festival (April 28). Details, rules, and entry forms are available on the website at https://www.chalkthisway.org. This is such a lovely acknowledgement! For those who don’t know where Marlin, TX is, this is in Falls County and is the poorest county in the state. Their library was in danger of closing (and still is, to be quite honest), and under severely reduced hours, but LAF heard about it and stepped up to help. Donations are still being accepted, if you care to help out!

Yesterday, November 14, the Greater Lewisville Arts Alliance held our annual "Angel Awards" ceremony, in the Lewisville Grand Gallery, to recognize outstanding volunteers from all of our 9 member arts organizations. Each organization nominated their top-contributing volunteer (or small unified group of volunteers) of the past year. Each year a different arts organization serves as the host. This year's host was Lakeside Arts Foundation, who wishes to especially thank the City of Lewisville and the Grand Staff, especially Denise Helbing, for supporting us, helping us and for allowing us to use the beautiful Grand Gallery for this wonderful ceremony to recognize the people who make the Arts happen in our community!
