Due to the ongoing government shutdown, recipients of SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program) have not received their November benefits yet. Earlier today it was announced that SNAP benefits for November will be partially funded. Recipients do not currently know when they will receive these benefits or how much assistance they will receive. In Forsyth County alone 57,000 people receive SNAP benefits and may now be facing food insecurity. In the state of North Carolina, 600,000 children may now be facing food insecurity.
Jesus made it clear that those who follow him are called to love and feed their neighbors. In our town of Lewisville, we can love our neighbors well by supporting the Lewisville Community Assistance Program. The next LCAP food distribution event is Sunday, November 9th from 4:30-6:00pm at Lewisville United Methodist Church (6290 Shallowford Road). LCAP volunteers are working hard this week to stock the pantry in anticipation of a larger food distribution event than ever before.
Right now, the best way to support LCAP is through financial donations. You can give online at lcaplewisville.org/give or by mailing a check made out to LCAP to Lewisville United Methodist Church. LCAP is committed to assessing and communicating the ongoing needs of our community throughout this crisis. Stay tuned for more ways that you can support the ministry of LCAP and love your neighbors well.
