On Sunday April 5th, 2026, at 0129 hours, Lewistown Fire Rescue was dispatched to a residential structure fire with an occupant trapped inside on the 500 block of North Elm. Officers from the Lewistown Police Department and the Fergus County Sheriffโs Office arrived on scene within minutes and attempted to rescue the occupant but the fire and smoke conditions inside the residence were too intense. The first fire engine arrived on scene within 5 minutes. A fire crew made entry into the residence and they were successful with rescuing the trapped occupant. The occupant was transported by ambulance to Central Montana Medical Center with severe injuries. Fire crews remained on scene for several hours performing salvage and overhaul operations. 13 firefighters responded with 1 Engine, 1 Ladder truck, 1 Rescue Truck and 2 Command vehicles. The Lewistown Police Department, Fergus County Sheriffโs Office, Central Montana Dispatch, Central Montana Medical Center Ambulance, DES, Red Cross and a crew from Northwestern Energy also assisted with the incident.

The Cause of the fire is under investigation by Lewistown Fire Rescue and the Lewistown Police Department. The State Fire Marshals office is also assisting.
