Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, support survivors, remember those whose lives have been lost, and remind our community that help is available.
Domestic violence affects people of every age, background, and community. The numbers demonstrate just how widespread the problem remains. According to the CDC, more than 1 in 3 women and more than 1 in 6 men in the United States have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime.
Here in Pennsylvania, the impact is equally serious. The Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports that 99 victims lost their lives to domestic violence in 2025. Of those victims, 72% were killed by a current or former intimate partner, and 72% were killed with a fi***rm. Over the past decade, more than 1,500 people have died in domestic-violence-related incidents in Pennsylvania.
The Huntingdon Borough Police Department is proud to stand with our community partners at Huntingdon House and The Abuse Network in supporting victims and survivors, promoting awareness, and working toward safer homes and communities.
If you or someone you know needs help, you are not alone. Resources are available 24 hours a day.
