Everyone deserves healthy food and should be able to access it in their local community, but for many Mainers, putting a healthy meal on the table is a substantial challenge. Mary’s Nutrition Center helps families address this problem and promotes community health through organizing, advocacy, and education. The long term goal of the Nutrition Center is to build a viable food system, while support

ing local leaders, strengthening community ties, building the local economy and engaging youth as agents of change. "The wide net that police cast across people of color is at odds with advancing safety because excessive police contact often fails to intercept serious criminal activity and diminishes the perceived legitimacy of law enforcement."

Gather to Grow is located in the heart of the Tree Streets. Yesterday our Center along with countless homes, businesses, and young people walking home from school were overrun by more than 2 dozen K9 teams from throughout the state of Maine as part of a routine saturation patrol. This is the second patrol of this sorts within a year.

That this patrol occurred in the part of our City with highest concentration of people of color and immigrants is routine in that it follows a long, historic, and entrenched pattern of racialized targeting and profiling across this country. Whereas some in our community applaud this effort as furthering safety research shows that it does not keep communities safe, or thriving.

Maine Immigrants' Rights Coalition in partnership with Presente Maine and coalition members, partners, and local organizers across the state just launched lighthouseme.org, a statewide platform for Mainers to find trusted information, connect to resources, explore data, and understand the issues impacting immigrants in Maine.

This and other resources are needed more now than ever. Neighbors across Lewiston Auburn have experienced targeting by officials day and night - outside work, school, childcare and church. Multiple detentions have occurred. Families have been separated; communities have been fractured.

See the comments for more on what has been happening and to view and share this critical resource.
