Gather to Grow Gather to Grow brings people together to imagine and build a just and equitable food system. The St.

Everyone deserves healthy food and should be able to access it in their local community, but for many Mainers, putting a healthy meal on the table is a substantial challenge. Mary’s Nutrition Center helps families address this problem and promotes community health through organizing, advocacy, and education. The long term goal of the Nutrition Center is to build a viable food system, while supporting local leaders, strengthening community ties, building the local economy and engaging youth as agents of change. Mary's Food Pantry is located at 208 Bates Street in Lewiston and is open Tuesday and Friday from 11am to 2pm. Lewiston/Auburn residents are welcome to come to the Food Pantry one time a month and must show a picture ID and a recent piece of mail with their Lewiston/Auburn address on it. Please bring plastic or reusable shopping bags to carry your food if possible. The Lewiston Farmer's Market is open on Sundays (May to Oct.) from 10am to 1pm at the Bates Mill Complex at the corner of Main Street and Lincoln Street in Lewiston. Winter Farmers' Market runs from November to mid-winter with dates and location to be determined. Credit cards, SNAP (food stamps), and WIC accepted at summer and winter markets. Through Lots to Gardens families and individuals grow food in garden plots around Lewiston/Auburn. Plots are available for Lewiston/Auburn residents who don't have growing space of their own. Call or email the Nutrition Center for schedule information for Adult and Children's Cooking and Nutrition Classes. Call or email for applications and information about jobs and leadership programs for Lewiston/Auburn area youth.

A HUGE shout out to Gallant Therapy Services and MEOTA (Maine Occupational Therapty Association) for spotlighting the work of Gather to Grow and encouraging the attendees of their 50th statewide fall conference to donate non-perishable foods along with funds. A special thank you from Elizabeth from GTS for facilitating and Joseph and Ari for delivering!

With food costs on the rise and hunger increasing in our community and across the state, every donation helps us better stock our shelves and feed our neighbors.

As many of our community as heard, changes are coming to the Gather to Grow Food Pantry. Starting the week of 10/26/26 the Food Pantry will have NEW HOURS.

We will be open Thursday, 11 am - 6 pm beginning Thursday, October 29th. We will NO LONGER BE OPEN Tuesdays and Fridays INCLUDING Tuesday, October 27th and Friday, October 30th.

This change in hours will support Gather to Grow in continuing to offer a thoughtful, welcoming, and safe food pantry for all, over the long term. We will combine two days into one, but will be open about the same hours per week.

We know that a change like this can be disruptive to families already struggling. We will continue to listen to guests and work with partners to make this transition as easy as possible.

A roaring thank you from the Geiger Gators to Lewiston’s Paris Farmers Union for their generous donation of soil to support our outdoor education efforts! Paris Farmers Union participates in Coast of Maine’s to offer nonprofits all across Maine communities the opportunity to foster community through gardening!

Below are photos from Geiger’s 2026 Spring Planting Day where 10+ classes (that’s well over 100 students) got out into the garden in a single day!

Garden Coach and Occupational Therapist, Caitlin White says “we were able to complete so much including adding a fresh layer of wood chips around our garden bed spaces, transplanting lupines, lamb's ear, lemon balm, and cat mint, completing much needed weeding and trimming of plants, planting onions, potatoes, cilantro, lettuce, sunflowers, corn, carrots, and radishes, and harvesting the kale that survived the winter for our cafeteria's salad bar!”

Our students, like our gardens, are thriving! We are so happy to be !

It turns out connected roots CAN and WILL weather the storm!!! Our first annual Rad Roots Harvest Meal and Celebration transformed an otherwise wet and chilly evening into a warm and hopping gathering of more than a hundred of our community members who came together to enjoy delicious local food, local beats, and local flavors. We will take a moment for radical connection, joy, and nourishment showcasing local farm fresh food alongside the local work being done to build and connect Lewiston and Auburn to a sustainable and thriving local food system.

Even a week later, Gather to Grow staff are still feeling the energy, excitement, and imagination from our time last week with the 2026 Envision Resilience Lewiston Auburn Challenge.

It was humbling, inspiring, and affirming to be on a panel alongside such incredible changemakers from our community, including Maine MAINE Community Integration-MCI The Drop-In Center Maine Inside Out Maine Immigrant and Refugee Services and The Red Shed at Valley View Farm.

It was equally that moving to engage with the initial findings from this incredible cohort of design, planning, and architectural students.

We are excited to see how Envision Resilience helps take their mission to advance innovative planning and design in the face of climate change through student and community partnerships and apply it to the unique challenges, possibilities, and potential of Lewiston Auburn's riverfront.

Tonight's the night! If you haven't yet, there is still just a few hours to grab your punch card and taste your way down Lisbon Street for this year's re-imagined Taste the Harvest on Wednesday, September 30th 4pm-7pm. Hosted by the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Taste the Harvest is a fun-filled fall festival highlighting local restaurants and featuring hands-on family friendly activities and live music. The event is free to attend with the punch cards for food vendors purchased separately.
