A Personal Update from Joel Furrow.

For the past 14 years, Joel Furrow has served at The Root Cellar, first in Lewiston and the last 6 as the Executive Director. Today, he shares that he will be stepping into a new ministry opportunity in Maine and finishing his time with The Root Cellar at the end of July.

In his letter, Joel reflects on God's faithfulness, the people who have shaped his journey, and why he believes the best days of this ministry are still ahead.

"The future of The Root Cellar belongs to Jesus, and no one else. It’s in very good hands. He has been faithful every step of the way, and I have every confidence that He will continue to guide and provide for this ministry in the years ahead."

You cannot replace Crouse .

Not because of the programs he helped build.

Not because of the events he led.

But because of the people he loved, mentored, challenged, and pointed toward Jesus.

Today, we had the joy of celebrating more than 35 students from our Adult English Language Learning program.

Learning English takes real dedication, perseverance, and hard work. It’s an honor to watch our students expand their knowledge of English while raising families, working jobs, and adapting to life in the United States. We are proud of their commitment and grateful to celebrate all they have accomplished!

We’re grateful to share a few important leadership updates at The Root Cellar.

Over time, one of the great joys of this work is seeing leaders grow from within — people who love their neighbors well, serve faithfully, and step into greater responsibility with humility, wisdom, and conviction.

Alyssa McKay has been promoted to Director of Programs in Lewiston, Vicky Crouse to Director of Operations for the entire organization, and Myra Ashley Woodard to Program Manager in Portland.

Each of these women has already been serving in meaningful ways, and these new roles reflect the strength, faithfulness, and leadership they bring to The Root Cellar every day.

Please join me in congratulating Alyssa, Vicky, and Myra Ashley. We’re thankful for them and excited for what’s ahead.

We want to provide clarity and transparency regarding grant funding The Root Cellar received through the Maine Community Foundation’s Lewiston–Auburn Broad Recovery effort. We also want to share why The Root Cellar is redirecting $65,521.79 for ongoing support of the families of those killed, and those who survived the mass shooting on October 25th, 2023.
