Well the first, of what we hope to be many, Skaru·ré Reels Short Films Festival was a success! We want to start by saying Nyà·wé to all the film makers, those that were in the films and those that were on the panels, we truly appreciate your time and graciousness. We can’t thank Patty Fischer enough for spending her day in the kitchen making some delicious foods for lunch! We also send a huge Nyà·wé to those that came out to support the Tuscarora Historical Society, we enjoy sharing with our community and those surrounding us as well. We have such a rich history, we pride ourselves on telling our own story with our own people using our own words. If you didn’t make it this one keep an eye on our FB page, we have so much to share that we hope to do another one in the Spring!

Skaru·ré Reels went very well tonight! The Gift is a documentary on corn, as you may know Tuscarora White Corn can be found all across the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. We are thankful for those that joined us and grateful for those that participated on the panel. We will continue with 5 more short films tomorrow, beginning at 11:00 am.
There will be food for purchase as well. We hope to see you there🎬

It is with an extremely heavy heart that we say ‘see you again’ to our founder of the Tuscarora History Society, Yehsenaruhcreh Wendy Bissell. The group began about 15 years ago on Wendy’s front porch, as a book club, we had our regular Tuesday night meeting in Wendy’s living room last week, most of the group was able to be there. She reminded us of the upcoming projects we have, we had a lot of laughs, we usually do! Her son calls it The Hilarious Group 😂 Wendy had a love for the Tuscarora Nation and was quite adamant that ‘we tell our own story our way, thru our eyes’. Wendy welcomed everyone to her house to learn, to share what she knew and for you to share what you know. The group evolved and moved to the Culture Room at the Tuscarora School and has since found a home at the Tuscarora Nation Building. We have hosted several events over the years, Wendy called them ‘the doings’🙂 All in an effort to educate our community, she knew our people have so much to be proud of and wanted to share as much as we could. She told many stories about growing up on our territory, she was so proud to be Tuscarora Turtle Clan. She was the backbone to our group and we will do our best to keep going in a direction that will honor her. As they say, ‘your work here is done, it’s time for you to rest now’. Journey Well Wendy❤️ We miss you already🥰

Our Tuscarora History group was given some photos for safe keeping and preservation. What a pleasant surprise to see my Aunt Chris weaving a Patterson Lacrosse stick in the collection🥍How I love and miss her🥰 This was taken in 1993 by Ken Wheatley, she passed in 1996, my heart was broken when we lost her, she was like a second mom to us😢 Thank you to the Wheatley family for trusting our group with this awesome collection🙂
*if you have any pictures or historical data pertaining to the Tuscarora Nation that you would like to share or have archived feel free to reach out to our group.
