Roller Derby is a high contact sport, involving women, quad speed skates, and protective gear. Two teams of 5 girls skate around a flat track in packs, with one designated 'jammer'. Each team play offense and defense at the same time, trying to allow their 'jammer' to gain points for her team. Quad Speed skates, a helmet, knee pads, elbows pads, wrist guards, and a mouth guard. HCH does have a bin
of extra, donation, gear available for girls who want to try Derby, without committing. Once 'fresh meat' decides if Derby is something she is destined to do, established players can help that member choose upgraded gear. "Starter skates" can be purchased at Big 5 sporting goods (Bullets for $50) until money is saved or raised for higher quality skates. Aside from our 'donation bin', gear can be found at many of the local skate shops, Hastings, Big 5, Tri State, Sports Authority...from one of our sponsors in Spokane (Krunch Skate Shop) or various Derby websites...such as Derby Warehouse, FastGirl Skates, or eBay. How much does it cost?? First practice is FREE!!.. Every practice after is $5 a practice, or a monthly due of $30, due by the 15th of EACH month. Dues must be paid in order to skate. When first months dues are paid, an active skater will receive a black shirt and a yellow shirt. When & Where are practices?? Practices are subject to change. Coaches try to regularly update this information on our fanpage...also, once a girl is a dues paying member, they are added to our "Active Skaters Page" on Facebook. This is a private, skaters only, communication page on Facebook. Is HCH family friendly?? We are a VERY FAMILY FOCUSED TEAM. 90% of our team is moms. We help each other with our kids during practices and events. We understand and believe that family comes first, and therefore work together when necessary to facilitate this belief. There are times when minors aren't allowed, but even then, we share babysitters. Volunteer Work::

As Hells Canyon Honeys we choose to strengthen our team by building strong personal bonds to our teammates. As we grow we will continue our efforts of service to strengthen our community. As a team we will promote good health, and support Roller Derby through sportsmanship and sisterhood, on or off the track. We will be an example to women everywhere, young and old. We will show them they are strong enough to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others. As Hells Canyon Honeys we live up to these words:
