GEHS Band Boosters: Hawaii 2025 Sponsored by the Greenbrier East High School Band Boosters

Hello!

I hope everyone is resting after a fabulous week 🌺 Mr. Allder and Herb posted huge thanks to so many folks that made this trip possible, but there are a few more that I would like to take a moment to add.

A huge thank you to Laurie Hedrick and the Greenbrier County Schools Transportation Department, specifically our bus drivers Nicholas Hamrick and Carl McCutcheon. Laurie was a pleasure to work with in terms of getting a solid plan together to get the kids to and from Charlotte, particularly when the weather was looking iffy on the return trip. Carl and Nicholas gave us their time (and have done so several times throughout marching season) and made sure our kids were safe on their journey. Without all of these folks, we would have had to come up with alternative plans for getting them to Charlotte.

Thank you to all of the folks who assisted with the costumes this season! I couldn’t even begin to list everyone that helped, whether it was sewing, organizing, or cleaning them, but you all did a phenomenal job keeping those costumes looking sharp—no easy task! The hosts for the parade commented on how good they looked, and they sure did, all thanks to you! Please give a 👋 in the comments if you helped with costumes, so we can celebrate you and thank you!

Speaking of costumes, kids-do what you want with them. Tie dye them, store them as a keepsake, honestly we really don’t care. Just please take them home and don’t ever bring them back 🤣 If you didn’t attend the trip, please get them from your garment bag next week and take them home. If you have not received a dog tag to keep, we will get one to you.

Our 2025 season is officially over, and we thank each and every person who made it one for the books. Continue to share the photos and memories here; we love seeing them ❤️

And that's a wrap! Everyone made it home safely last night and is likely still sleeping 12 hours later. Using flight data and Google maps, we estimate the group traveled 10,036.7 miles, round trip. For many, it's the journey of a lifetime! We'll continue to leave this page up so everyone can come here to reflect on the trip. Feel free to share your pictures on this post! I truly hope everyone had a wonderful time and I'm proud of each of you - students, chaperones, parents, directors, helpers.
This is Amanda, signing off.

👏 round of applause to some of the band dad's who were brave enough to make the journey! Peep the matching chicken shirts. In case you didn't know, Oahu is FULL of "wild" protected chickens!

Thought for the day:
In a 24 hour period, whether it was coming or going, our kids saw mountains made by continental collisions and glaciers, mountains made by tectonic plates, and mountains made by volcanoes.
