Welcome to the Valley... a community of committed people who seek to make the world better through self-care, community-care, and culture-care. Our values hold us together as a community: We teach them, demonstrate them in word and action, and help one another contribute to a more loving world community. The Susquehanna Valley Ethical Society provides a friendl

y, safe, inclusive, and totally non-judgmental forum for you to gather with like-hearted people. We acknowledge and respect the right of every human being to live a peaceful, productive, ethical, and fulfilling life. We understand that our lives are embedded in earth's ecology and our interdependence with nature. We organize ourselves in order to help make our community a better, more accepting place.

"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde

Humanism asks us to show up for our lives, not just move through them. What would it look like to be a little more present in your own story?

[Phill Wilson’s life became intrinsically tied to the AIDS crisis in the early 1980s. In 1981, while living in Chicago, both Phill and his partner, Chris Brownlie, started experiencing symptoms. Phill was diagnosed with HIV at a time when it was effectively a death sentence. He then had to endure the heartbreak of watching his partner and countless friends succumb to the disease, with Chris tragically passing away in 1989.

Channeling his grief and his fight for life, Wilson quickly plunged into activism in Los Angeles. He co-founded the National Black Le***an and Gay Leadership Forum and served as the AIDS Coordinator for the City of Los Angeles in the early 90s, becoming one of the first Black gay men to hold such a high-level policy role.] - Cerinass, The Queen's Lounge Blog

One hundred and fifty years in, the work is the same as it was at the start: to gather, to act, and to keep asking what an ethical life requires.

Our latest AEU story reflects on where this Movement has been, what has endured, and how each generation continues the work of living ethics out loud.

Through reflections from Ellen McBride, Steve Serling, and Carolyn A. Parker, this piece explores community, ethical action, education, and the ongoing call to place “Deed above Creed.”
