Giving the Gift of Sight

Giving the Gift of Sight Supporting children effected with ONH/SOD and their families. It all started with a little girl named Heather Schutt. Heather was born in May of 2007.

When she was four months old, she was hospitalized for 11 days due to seizures. The doctors weren't sure what exactly caused them and continued to run multiple tests. This is when she was diagnosed with ONH, an underactive pituitary and an underlying seizure disorder. The family was told there was nothing that could be done other than pray the condition improves over time, but improvement was unli

kely. A few months later our family ran into a family friend, "Howie", who referred us to an article about a little boy in Pittsburgh who was diagnosed with the same thing. The little boy received stem cell treatment in China and the family saw an improvement in his vision. It was the answer to our prayers. From there, we researched this treatment day and night. A year later, the family decided it was worth a try and started raising funds. In June/July of 2010, the family made the trip to China and Heather received treatment. "Since we returned, we have also seen improvements. The distance Heather can see has doubled, she has been seizure free, and her speech improved dramatically. Now that we have seen what this treatment can do first hand, we want to be able to help others have the same opportunity."

Hey friends!

We are asking for your help in supporting a family just down the street from one of our volunteers and Heather, the little girl that helped start the journey of Giving the Gift of Sight, in their little town in Perry County.

On September 17th, 1 year old Daisy was picked up from the babysitter's, and was found limp and unresponsive. She was rushed to Harrisburg hospital where she started having seizures. They were able to stabilize her and did a scan that showed a fractured skull and 2 compressed vertebrae. The hospital then flew Daisy to Penn State Hershey's Children's Hospital.

There she was listed as a trauma patient and admitted into the pediatric intensive care unit. September 19th, while still in the hospital, she had a very bad seizure, and the rapid response team was called in. After further testing they found she had a brain bleed and blood behind her eyes.

The injuries she sustained has caused the loss of her vision as well as the signal from her brain that tells her body she is hungry. This means Daisy requires a feeding tube and a more permanent one will need to put into her body in the near future.

For the family, it's been stressful as they take it day by day and wait and hope to see if her vision comes back over the next few months.

Daisy has started rehab in order to relearn how to do things she had already known how to do, such as crawl and walk. But they all have a long road ahead of them. Not just her physical health, but also medical bills, appointments, and legal action.

The fundraiser that is set up for them is a Little Caesars Pizza Fundraiser. We encourage our friends to offer their support.

If pizza isn't your thing, Giving the Gift of Sight will also be collecting any donations specifically for them and matching the amount. Just reach out to us for donation options and details.
