Starting kindergarten can feel exciting… and terrifying… especially for parents of children with special needs 💙
If your child is entering kindergarten this fall, here are a few things you can start NOW to make the transition smoother:
✨ Practice opening lunch containers and backpacks
✨ Drive past the school if possible
✨ Create a simple visual morning routine
✨ Work on asking for help from adults
✨ Read books about starting school
✨ Practice short separations if your child struggles with transitions
And most importantly:
Your child does NOT need to start kindergarten “perfectly prepared.”
Teachers learn your child.
Your child learns the routine.
And YOU are allowed to feel emotional about it too.
Every child adjusts differently, and that’s okay 💙
Parents — what are you most nervous about when it comes to kindergarten?
