Support Outdoor Learning at LES!

This campaign is inspired by the work of LES teachers like Alyson Bull (6th grade), who are regularly using the field, streams, and woods around the school in an innovative effort to extend and expand classroom instruction:

"I began teaching outdoors as a way to make in-person learning a possibility during the pandemic. I immediately found the benefits far exceeded my expectations! Students were more engaged and able to focus more fully; there was more joy and less stress. Now I see the entire campus as our classroom and I'm finding ways to facilitate learning from the natural world around us. Outdoor education cultivates curiosity, connectedness, and compassion. I hope that our students will develop a deep love and respect for the environment and work toward building a sustainable future for us all."

Please join the Leverett Education Foundation and Leverett Historical Commission for this special gathering of historians, community elders, educators, and LES alumni and their families, to hear personal reflections on Leverett schooldays, then and now.

This event celebrates the publication of 10-to-1: Interviews with Leverett Scholars Who Attended One-Room Schoolhouses, a wonderful volume of stories from individuals who grew up in Leverett in another era, transcribed from a series of interviews by LES 6th graders in 2017–18.

There will be presentations, conversation, interactive exhibits,
refreshments, and books for purchase.

All are welcome.

*In case of rain, the event will be held at the Leverett Town Hall
