For the past six years, what began as a small family effort has grown into a community mission.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, my family and I saw the needs of elders and high-risk families in our rural community of Leupp, Arizona. Instead of waiting for people to come to us, we traveled miles of rough back roads, delivering PPE, disinfectant supplies, food, water, blankets, winter clothing, and other essential items directly to those who needed them most.
One elder would lead us to another, and another. Through those connections, we were able to assist approximately 120 households, identify nearly 60 elders with critical ongoing needs, reconnect families, and build relationships rooted in trust and respect.
Today, that mission continues. Our focus has expanded to providing free firewood to elders, veterans, and families in need throughout the Navajo Nation. Thanks to the generosity of community partners and incredible volunteers, we distributed approximately 700 loads of firewood in 2025, helping families prepare for the winter season.
Now, we're preparing for our Veterans Firewood Splitting & Distribution Event on August 1, 2026.
Your monetary donation will help purchase food, drinks, and essential supplies for the volunteers who are giving their time to serve our communities. Every contribution—large or small—helps us continue providing free firewood to elders, veterans, and families who need it most.
Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us ensure that no elder or family is left without support. ❤️

Free-use firewood available southeast of Flagstaff

Flagstaff, Ariz.— Free ponderosa pine firewood is available near Fay Canyon approximately 5 miles southeast of Flagstaff along Lake Mary Road for valid free-use permit holders.

About 300 cords of firewood are currently available and visible from the road, which includes full-length logs that are 10-14 foot long and neatly stacked near Sandy Canyon Trailhead.

Free-use firewood permits can be obtained at the Flagstaff Ranger Station or Forest Headquarters and allow up to five cords of wood per permit.

Permit holders are asked to keep safety in mind and be considerate of other forest visitors who are using the area and Sandy Canyon Trail.

For more information, please contact Austin Cash at [email protected].
