Alabama documentarian and photographer Jackson Knight visited Washington County AL during the fall of 2025, Knight was crisscrossing the state’s Black Belt, videoing & telling the stories of small towns, historic churches, and the people who keep them alive. Knights, unique and down to earth style of sharing History was absolutely educational and entertaining!
I enjoyed visiting with Mr. Knight during his time in Washington County… Knight visited the Prestwick Preservation Park, the Washington County Museum, and many more historic sites and churches. Knight shared much of this documented history on Facebook and other social media platforms.

Prestwick Alabama was given its named by F***y Hunter, the wife of Andrew Hunter.
Andrew Hunter was an immigrants from Scotland… F***y was from Ireland.
Prestwick bears the name of Hunter’s birthplace, Prestwick Scotland.
The Hunters were part owners of the Hunter-Benn sawmill, established in 1899. They also owned the Hunter-Garris House, once located in Prestwick. After the sawmill changed ownership it became the Bowling Sawmill.
The Hunters moved, the house was sold, disassembled and reassembled on the south end of Leroy near Highway 43 South.

I’m posting this Wonderful Memory in honor of a dear friend, Mrs. Lou Schell. We spent some wonderful times together discussing life, the good old days, and the history of Washington County. Mrs. Lou was always such a special person and a Joy to be around, I will truly miss her. **I made this video of her in July 2022 at her beautiful historic home, during a Washington County Historical Society quarterly meeting… Her performance was wonderful!!…
I will miss you Mrs. Lou❤️🙏🏽❤️

On November 13th The Prestwick Preservation Society presented a Sports Exhibit-Meet & Greet at the McIntosh Public Library.

The Theme: “Great Coaches & Athletes from Small Towns in Alabama”

Guest Speakers:
ASHAA Hall of Fame Inductee Renard Davis, Alabama Sports Writer Association’s Coach of the Year and Washington County Hall of Fame Inductee, Larry Boykin, former University of Alabama Baseball Player & Probate Judge, John Armstrong and former NFL Bengals linebacker and coach, Emanuel King.

This exhibit was designed to promote good conduct & being a team player. The coaches and players talked to the McIntosh Elementary fourth graders about education, goals, leadership, respecting others and working together. Rev. Richmond Chaney talked about hard work and faith.

The students were very much involved with the program. They had many questions, collected autographs and viewed the other Pro Basketball, Football and Baseball players featured in the exhibit. After the program “Gift Bags” were available for all students complements of the Washington County Museum Association.

*Many thanks to McIntosh Public Library, Washington County Board for Education, Mr. Kirkland, the Washington County Museum, and photographer, Kimberley Curry, your involvement made it possible for Prestwick Preservation Society to continue providing students with history and information concerning Washington County and how to become better citizens.
