What is Leoti Loves Zambia? This ministry, based out of the Leoti United Methodist Church, seeks to partner with individuals, churches, schools, and organizations in Leoti and Wichita County to send supplies, goods, prayers, and mission teams to Zambia. There is a way that

everyone can participate! Zambia, formerly Northern Rhodesia, is a former English colony with a democratically elected government. It is a central southern landlocked African country. It is a peaceful place with some wonderful natural resources, including plains, mountains, and the world famous Victoria Falls. About the size of Texas, 14.6 million people live there. Over 60% of the people live below the poverty line. The average school class size is 70 students. In Zambia the churches are the ones who start schools and clinics. Our help is greatly needed to make the resources of the Wesleyan Church go further to share the love of Christ. Where does the stuff go? We are partnered with two groups. One group is Team Ministries, based out of Lebanon, Kansas. Team Ministries is led by Brian Maydew and Dave Atkins, both volunteers who have a heart to serve Zambia. They are currently sending around 9 shipping containers every year to Zambia from Lebanon, filled with supplies and goods. They also send missionary teams, usually twice a year, in January/February and in the summer. The other group is the Pilgrim Wesleyan Church of Zambia (connected to the Wesleyan Church in America) who is led by a national superintendent, Rev. Dr. Alfred Kalembo. Alfred came to Leoti in January 2015 to share with us a vision for ministry to reach Zambia. He oversees hundreds of churches, schools, clinics, hospitals, orphanages, and other ministries. The need is great. The shipping containers arrive in Zambia and are unloaded at his home where the goods are shared throughout the country to meet their needs. How can you help?
• Pray. We need prayers for the church and ministry in Zambia, for future missionary teams, and our churches here to be blessed as we work.
• Donate goods or supplies. We need schools supplies (old textbooks, furniture, library books, pens, pencils, crayons, etc.), musical instruments, medical supplies, home goods (such as pots and pans), gently used clothing, gently used furniture, church supplies (including old furniture, Bibles, education materials, etc.), and much more. If you have a question about something you might want to donate, please ask!
• Assemble children’s activity packets or adult hygiene packets. We have handouts for each.
• Travel to Zambia. We are planning on sending a team in January 2016 for a two week trip. The dates and other details will be forthcoming. If you are interested, please contact the Leoti UMC office and let them know. We will put your name on a list of interested individuals.
• Sponsor an orphan, a ministry student, or a medical student. The cost of education is much cheaper in Zambia, so every dollar goes a long way. Educating more Zambians to reach more people helps greatly. Sponsoring an orphan costs $330 a year. You can meet that orphan if you travel to Zambia and have contact with them through the mail.
