SMC BECA Founded in 1989, BECA is the St. Mary's County Business, Education and Community Alliance. http://www.smcbeca.org BECA has awarded one-time scholarships to St.

The Business, Education and Community Alliance, Inc., known simply as BECA (pronounced beh-ka), is a local 501(c)3 non-profit charity organization founded in 1989 jointly by the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce and Superintendent of Schools, see http://www.smcbeca.org/ BECA’s mission is to bring together business and community leaders interested in working closely with the local school system

to improve student success. Mary’s High School graduating seniors since 1995. To date BECA has awarded over 300 scholarships totaling almost $300,000. BECA also administers the St. Mary's County Common Scholarship Application, allowing students to apply for numerous local scholarships using one application. Since its introduction in 2007, approximately $4,000,000 in local scholarships has been awarded through the common application. For information, Beca (pronounced bay’-cah) is Spanish for Scholarship.
