New Jersey Blind Citizens Association Celebrating 115 years of unlocking opportunities for the blind, visually impaired and those with deteriorating vision

A 501 (c) 3 not for profit located on Sandy Hook bay in beautiful Leonardo, NJ. We serve adults who are blind, visually impaired and those with deteriorating vision. A day program that includes activities and programs such as art, therapy dogs, support groups for families as well participants, crochet, special interest trips and trips and outings to local eating establishments.

We were proud to recently host our Art from the Heart exhibit! Over the course of 4 hours, community members stopped by to see some incredible artwork created by our Camp Happiness members.

In addition to checking out the diverse art pieces, people were also encouraged to try on special goggles and draw, giving them a firsthand glimpse into some of the challenges our members face. Despite these obstacles, they continue to persevere and create the lovely artwork that was on display.

There were also light refreshments, raffle prizes with donations from local businesses, and beautiful live music performed by Marc Merriman.

A huge thank you to Carol Stillwell for the most amazing night at Count Basie! The Camp Happiness members and volunteers had an evening out enjoying the show, Happy Together! The music was fabulous and we had the very best time together dancing in our seats and being happy together!

Camp Happiness is our weekly program that provides free transportation and activities for people who are blind or visually impaired, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for them to socialize and have fun.

At one of our recent camps, fiddler Dave Rimelis from The Arts Institute of Middlesex County performed and gave our campers instruments to play alongside him. 🤩

The NJBCA is partnering with the organization and will be having different musicians from The Division of Visual & Performing Arts perform at Camp Happiness throughout the summer. Emmanuel Solano, the program’s coordinator, accompanied Rimelis to see the program’s success and how much it means to our members. 🎶

Carol Stillwell, the president and CEO of Stillwell-Hansen Inc. (one of our gold sponsors for our upcoming Art from the Heart exhibit), also stopped by to get a preview of some of the artwork and meet the amazing artists behind them! 🎨

📣 We’re excited to announce that we will be hosting an art exhibit on Sunday, 6/7 from 12-4 PM!

The Art from the Heart exhibit will feature different art pieces that our talented Camp Happiness members have created. 🎨

The event will also include light refreshments, live music, and door prizes. Community members are encouraged to stop by and stay as long as they’d like! 🤩

Admission is free, but donations to Camp Happiness will be welcomed and appreciated. ❤️
