Last week a skunk in Leominster, that had been acting aggressive and chasing people and dogs, tested positive for the rabies virus. It is believed the skunk may have scratched a dog on the nose. Thankfully, the dog was up-to-date on the rabies vaccination. He was given a booster and placed on a 45 day quarantine just as a precaution. This is a good reminder as to why it is so important to make sure your dog and cat is up-to-date on the rabies vaccination, in addition to it being the law. It is also a good reminder why you need to be sure to not be handling wildlife at any time. Please do not feed wildlife because it brings them into the area and it puts people and their pets at risk. Any food that is available in the area will draw in wildlife. Please secure all food sources at all times.
Please note that there is a vaccination clinic coming up this month in Fitchburg. If your dog is not up to date on the rabies vaccination, please pre-register your pet on the 13th.
