🕷️ Tick Safety 101: Protect Your Family This Season!
As our youth spend more time outdoors exploring nature, hiking trails, and working in our gardening programs, staying safe from ticks and Lyme disease is more important than ever! 🌲🥾
We are sharing these essential educational videos created by Dr. Fernando Catalina from Practical Pediatrics for Parents. He breaks down exactly how to protect your kids, what to look for, and the correct way to safely remove a tick.
📌 Key Safety Tips to Remember:
Use Protection: Spray shoes and lower legs with an insect repellent containing 15-25% DEET before heading into wooded or grassy areas.
The 2-Hour Shower Rule: Showering within two hours of coming indoors helps wash off any unattached ticks and significantly reduces the risk of Lyme disease.
Daily Tick Checks: Check hidden spots carefully—especially around the hair, ears, underarms, belly button, waist, and behind the knees.
Safe Removal: Always use fine tweezers to pull the tick straight out with steady pressure, or gently rotate a cotton swab around it. Never use heat, nail polish, or vaseline!
