Did you know that in 2026 this country will be 250 years old? DAR is celebrating with a project called America 250! Recently our chapter completed several projects, paid for by a grant from DAR to celebrate America 250! 12 America 250! garden flags were presented to the Mayors of Lenoir City, Loudon City, Greenback and Philadelphia to be displayed in rotation over the next 2 years. On April 26th chapter members gathered at Trinity United Methodist Church to plant a Liberty Tree (dogwood) with a Marker that was engraved with "America 250!, Trinity United Methodist Church" . Tennessee State DAR has made available to chapters their recently published book, "Patriots to Pioneers, the First Tennessee Volunteers". This is a collection of stories of Patriots who served in the Revolutionary War to gain American Independence and then became the founders and settlers of Tennessee. The 600-page volume features 372 documented and sourced Tennessee Patriot stories, 300 additional proven Tennessee Patriot names, beautiful full-color illustrations by renowned historical artist, David Wright and others, as well as an introduction and overview of the history of Tennessee’s role in the American Revolution and its founding. April 30, 2024 the chapter presented one of these books to the Lenoir City Public Library. May 22, 2024 the last of the 2 books was presented to the Loudon County Public Library. Although we have completed our projects funded by the grant, we have other projects in the works and 2 more books to donate to Loudon County High School and Lenoir City High School when the 24-25 school year begins. Please contact us for more information about our projects.

Our Women's Issues Committee has been busy. Most recently we visited Beauty for Ashes, a local drug rehabilitation location for women recovering from addiction. Our members shared personal stories and all the residents were presented with a journal. One of our committee members gave a presentation to them about the benefits of journaling and had handouts with helpful information about journaling. Another shared a letter she wrote to her mother years ago and we provided refreshments and two laundry baskets full of cleaning and personal care products provided. The residents were very appreciative and there were few dry eyes in the group after the letter, testimonies and essays were read. The information connected with everyone.

To commemorate the 120th birthday of Dr. Seuss, General William Lenoir Chapter was able to capture the Cat in the Hat to help us donate two Dr. Seuss Books, a poster and gift to the Lenoir City Librarian. The chapter also sent over a poster to the Philadelphia Librarian Mark Williams who will be using it as he reads Dr. Seuss books to school children.

New owners at ETN Axe Throwing in Lenoir City so we took them a Washington Birthday present. The actual hatchet that George Washington used to cut down the cherry tree. Because if you believe that story, why not... Anyhow we had a blast trying to throw axes and they loved the wall hanging

On December 16, 2023 30 members of General William Lenoir, at least 1 prospective member and their friends and families gathered at a total of 6 cemeteries to participate in the National Wreaths Across America Day. At 4 cemeteries, 8 symbolic wreaths for the branches of the service and POW's were installed on stands, one cemetery had 9 individual wreaths laid at the headstone of veterans and several at the 6th cemetery were there to honor their family members. Two flute players from the local High School band that attended to play Eternal Father Strong to Save. There were few dry eyes. It was a beautiful day for it.
