We’re grateful to Gonzaga University for sharing the story of Global Care Force volunteer Michelle Percopo and her experience serving in Ukraine.

Michelle will return this fall, continuing to serve alongside our Ukrainian colleagues and provide care in communities affected by war.

Meet Liubov Halisevych, Global Care Force’s Clinic Administrator in Ukraine.

Since May 2023, Liubov has participated in every GCF deployment in Ukraine. She helps coordinate field operations, manages the demanding logistics of moving volunteer teams into and out of the country, and runs our mobile clinic pharmacy, helping ensure patients receive their prescribed medications free of charge.

Before joining Global Care Force, Liubov worked in special education, supporting children on the autism spectrum. Today, she brings that same compassion, patience, and commitment to communities affected by war.

International volunteers may change from month to month, but Liubov is one of the dedicated Ukrainian leaders whose steady presence keeps our clinics moving and helps every team serve effectively.

We’re incredibly grateful for Liubov and the heart, strength, and care she brings to this mission.

Longtime Global Care Force volunteers Dr. Steve Kineke and Ann Schwanda, RN, recently spoke with WKBW 7 News in Buffalo about their latest deployment to Ukraine, and why they continue to return.

During their deployment, the team provided care to more than 1,000 patients across 15 clinic locations, including rural communities where primary healthcare is extremely limited or no longer available.

Steve and Ann also shared what life looks like beyond the headlines: nights disrupted by missile attacks, villages damaged by Russian strikes, and patients who may otherwise travel an hour or more and spend much of their monthly pension simply reaching a clinic and obtaining medicine.

For Steve and Ann, returning is about more than providing healthcare. It is also a way of reminding the people they serve that they have not been forgotten.

We are incredibly grateful for their longstanding commitment to Global Care Force and the people of Ukraine.

At 77, Victor remembers how quickly everyday life changed during the Russian occupation.

Medical supplies became scarce. Pensions stopped arriving. The price of medicine climbed beyond what many people could afford. Sometimes, finding medication meant traveling to another village, paying even higher prices, and first getting permission from Russian authorities just to make the trip.

Recently, Victor visited a Global Care Force clinic for the first time and left with a smile.

Today, free medical care means people in his community no longer have to choose between buying medicine and meeting other basic needs.

For Victor, that care represents something more: a source of hope and healing for a community that has endured so much.

This is why we keep coming back.

The people who make our work possible aren't always the ones in front of the camera.

Meet Dr. Eugene Onofriichuk.

Eugene joined Global Care Force in 2023 while still completing medical school. Today, he serves as our Deputy Medical Director and has participated in more than 28 medical deployments across Ukraine.

While international volunteers rotate throughout the year, Eugene is one of the local leaders who returns month after month, supporting volunteers, coordinating clinics, and helping ensure patients continue receiving quality healthcare in communities affected by war.

We're grateful for his leadership, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to serving his fellow Ukrainians.

Every month, our teams travel roads where the threat of drone attacks is very real.

Providing medical care in frontline communities requires more than doctors, nurses, pharmacists, translators, and medicine. It also means doing everything we can to help keep our volunteers safe while they serve.

We're grateful to the Petro Poroshenko Foundation for providing four drone detection systems that are now part of our vehicle safety protocols during deployments in southern Ukraine.

These systems have already proven effective and add another important layer of protection as our teams continue serving communities near the front line.

As Roxanne Alexander-Jones shared following our most recent deployment:

"We are very grateful to the Petro Poroshenko Foundation for the drone protection systems provided. They turned out to be extremely effective and helped us significantly. We were pleasantly surprised by the Foundation's decision to support us and we really appreciate the promise to continue this assistance."

Every safety measure helps ensure we can continue returning to the same communities month after month, providing consistent care to patients who depend on us.

Meet Theresa.

When Theresa thanked our team, she wasn't just speaking for herself. She thanked them on behalf of her entire village.

Every patient has a story. This is one of them.

Two teams. One month.

This month is a first for Global Care Force. We have two medical teams serving in Ukraine at the same time.

We heard from one of our team members after clinic today, and one comment stuck with us.

Nine days before they arrived, four aerial bombs struck schools in the community. A drone also damaged the rural medical facility where our team would later hold clinic.

Then they said, "Patients were already waiting when we got there."

That's the reality our teams continue to encounter.

People are still waiting to see a doctor. They still need medications, treatment, and someone to listen. Those needs don't stop because the fighting continues.

Thank you to every volunteer, translator, local healthcare provider, driver, donor, and partner who makes these deployments possible.

This month, two teams are serving.
