At our recent juniors’ meeting, the girls donated bears they made to Tyler Justice Center for Children, made packets of raffle tickets for Department fundraising raffle, and made USA pins for themselves. Liesl won a flashy cowboy hat in a drawing for attendance. Great job girls!

Last week, we had a pizza party to celebrate some of the delegates to this year’s Illini Girls State. Delegates in attendance were: Adelynn Anderson, Kaitlin Linden, Emily Engel, and Brianna Edler. The ladies told us about their experiences at girls state, and we enjoyed pizza and ice cream sundaes. We are so proud of our delegates!

Recently we held a special celebratory meeting for our accomplishments at the Department of Illinois American Legion Auxiliary Convention. Awards included: Best Juniors Program, Best Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Program, Best Americanism Program, and Best Community Service Program. The unit was named runner up for the Poppy Program and Education Program. Julia Moore was recognized for submitting the first prayer for the Department Prayer Book and for having the most American Legion Auxiliary Academy classes attended. Two unit members received special community service honors. Ev Karnatz received Junior Community Service Award & Karen Sirgany received Senior Community Service Award. Ev Karnatz was also graduated from junior member to senior member.

This past Saturday our Junior members met and made tray favors for veterans. The theme for the meeting was Christmas in July. The girls made Grinch ornaments and Julia handed out toiletry bags gifted to them by Past Department President Teri Miller. Juniors were also presented a plaque that the unit won at the Department of Illinois convention for best participation in the juniors program! Ev Karnatz attended her last juniors meeting as she will be a full Auxiliary member starting September, and she leaves for college in a couple weeks. Great job ladies! We are so proud of our unit!
