Packet pick up for Quarryman is only a week a way and we have a challenge for you (as if a 5k or 10mi run through the hills of Lemont wasn't enough).

We want you to show up to The CORE in your most historic Quarryman Challenge t-shirt!

That's right! Dig it out of the back of your closet, bottom of your drawer, rip it off the cool blanket your nana put together for you.

Why? Because free!

The person who comes to packet pick up over May 5th or 6th with the OLDEST Quarryman Challenge Shirt will get into Quarryman for free next year. That's right you get in for free in 2027 for holding onto the ratty remembrance of the thing you swore you'd never do again, yet here you are! (And we couldn't be prouder!)

At our board meeting tonight we recognized our Park District stars.

Congratulations to our Dolphins State Qualifiers, Parker Bekas, Clare Mueller, Cameron Kelly, and Kensi Cunningham! Great job ladies!

We also recognized Gabby Gatsios, one of our lifeguards, as our Values in Action winner! Gabby is a marketing whiz, and always happy to help with being in front of, or behind, the camera for our social media.

Finally, we recognized our Community Spotlight winner, Dan Ganzer. Dan was instrumental during our Indoor Triathlon this year and has been the person who coordinated and organized the Quarryman Challenge practice runs!

We are proud to have you a part of our Park District, we are better for all of you!

There is going to be something in every corner at our Athens Park Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting event and we don't want you to miss a thing!

Today is Earth Day and living in Lemont, it's easy to appreciate the surrounding environment and and the natural inhabitants of both plant and animal in our area.

Our newest park, Athens, has been constructed to make sure we are taking native plants into consideration, a wetland constructed with the assistance of the Army Corps of Engineers and consultants from Pizo & Associates.

You can also see our fine feathered friends taking up residence around the park. There is a nest of Ospreys, building their home in the telephone poles to the west of the park. Once an endangered species because of pesticide poisoning, they were reintroduced in Illinois and are no longer endangered due to the helps of a recovery program. In addition, you will be able to see songbirds, like Red-winged Blackbirds; waterfowl, like Mallards and Blue Winged Teals; and shorebirds, like Killdeer. All of these are protected species.

So this Earth Day, take a moment to appreciate what surrounds us and how the Park District is doing its best to take part in conservation as well.

Meet our new feature!
Park of the Week! Every week we will feature one of our 26 parks.

This weeks’s obvious choice: Athens Park. Located at the north end of Stephen Street in downtown Lemont this park features The Barkyard, our first dog park, an inclusive playground, two pavilions available for rental, a civic stage, and a trail. There’s lots of space to play and relax, view our beautiful pollinator garden and lots of activity all around! Plus it’s right downtown. Perfect for everyone in the family.
