🌼 What a transformation! 🌿

The LGC is on a mission - give the LAHS garden beds a fresh new look. Some of our members, a dedicated little crew, have stepped up with their hard work and trusty garden tools. It’s been amazing so far!

All of the beautiful perennials planted last year are flourishing. Every plant was donated by a few members, transplanted from their gardens. We also moved plants from other areas of the property to surround the newly-planted bed. Not one plant purchase was made, making this project extra special. 💚

We will be transforming sections at a time; little steps, a good plan and hard work will prove successful in the future. We Believe!! 😊

Many thanks to our HS crew members for your hard work and to Terry, John Q. and Karen (everyone) at LAHS for allowing us to pursue our gardening vision! We’re so proud to help brighten up a little piece of our community’s history! 🌼🌿🌻💚

🌱🥕 Growing, giving & buzzing! 🐝🌻

Our LGC crew has been busy in the Community Garden, harvesting lots of fresh produce and donating it to our local food pantry over the past few weeks! 💚

And we’re not the only ones hard at work—our pollinator friends have been buzzing from plant to plant, doing their part too! 🐝

Total Amount Donated to date: 251.2 lbs!

So much goodness growing in our garden! 🌿💚

On Monday, our club members toured the lovely garden of one of our gardening friends in the Bolingbrook area. Thank you, Merlyn, for your time and for sharing your beautiful oasis! We had a lovely time!

LGC members were busy last week at the community garden!

Several pounds, 47.6 to be exact, of produce was gathered and delivered to the food pantry. Some new additions to our usual vegetable donations were snow leopard honeydew melons, sugar baby watermelons, acorn squash and a huge 1.5 lb tomato!

The most exciting addition, though, is the 40 lbs of pumpkins that will be donated back to the kids at River Valley during their garden club season! These pumpkins are stored in a cool, dry place to cure. Their skins will get hard to preserve them until they are distributed. They were planted in the ground back in May.

Happy to report that the Grand Total has climbed to 200 lbs! Well done, LGC community garden crew!! 🥳

A variety of fresh vegetables was delivered to the food pantry over the past two weeks. A total of 35.3 lbs was harvested and weighed. This brings our Grand Total up to 112.4 lbs!

Last weekend, on the first of LGC’s summer tours, members spent their Saturday morning at the Forge. They not only learned about what berries and plants to pick and not to pick, but also certain ones that need preparation before eating. The plants identified were: Blackcap Raspberry, Queen Anne’s Lace (wild carrot), Black Walnut tree, Pokeweed, Stinging Nettle and the Elderberry plant. At the end of the tour, a sampling of local honey tea was enjoyed by all.

Thanks to Eric and Connie from the Conservation Foundation! They were so informative and knowledgeable about how to forage safely.
