๐ŸŒฑ Fresh produce, from our Community and River Valley Gardens, was donated to the food pantry this week to add to our growing total!

A special batch (2lbs!) of sugar snap peas was harvested from the River Valley Garden. The seeds were planted by students in April and now the plants are producing the rewards of their hard work!
We're also excited to see the broccoli starting to produce, while the pumpkin and corn beds are thriving and looking great.

We are so grateful these gardens are a success and support fresh, local food for our community! ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿซ›๐ŸŽƒ

Total this week: 10.5lbs!

Total to date: 44.9lbs!๐ŸŽ‰

Have you witnessed a growth explosion in your garden following those electrifying thunderstorms? Plants thrive on nitrogen for growth. Nitrogen in the atmosphere is transformed into a plant friendly form through the process of nitrogen fixation during storms. It's a dual blessing for your garden, a large dose of rainwater and nitrogen.

๐ŸŒฑ Celebrate National Garden Week! ๐ŸŒฑ

National Garden Week is a wonderful reminder of how rewarding, relaxing and fun gardening can be. Whether you enjoy tending flower beds, growing vegetables, nurturing houseplants or creating a backyard habitat for pollinators, gardening offers something for everyone.

Sometimes, the most rewarding experiences come when we step outside our gardening comfort zones and try something new. One of our club members is a great example of this; she decided to take a chance on a cactus native to Illinois. With patience and care, the unusual addition to her garden thrived and recently rewarded her with spectacular blooms-a stunning reminder that trying something different can lead to unexpected beauty.

During this week, celebrate your successes, enjoy the journey and consider planting something you've never grown before. You never know what amazing surprises may be waiting in your garden!

We'd love to hear: What's the most unexpected or rewarding plant you've ever grown? Share your stories and/or photos in the comments!๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿ…

This stunning garden, lovingly tended by one of our members, showcases the beauty that can be achieved with perennials. By choosing perennials, you can enjoy long term blooms, support pollinators, and experience low maintenance gardening that gets better with time. Incorporating annuals can complement your perennials as they establish, bringing instant color and interest. Plants in this garden include Penstemon, perennial geranium, white salvia, clustered bellflowers, and geum.

The kiddos who wrapped up the school year at River Valley last week donโ€™t need to worry about the vegetable garden they worked so hard to plant! Our LGC vegetable-growing expert, Suha, along with a small crew of members, will care for the garden all summer long until their return in August. A bountiful harvest will be waiting!๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ…
