🌳Gratitude, Teamwork & Growth at the Danish Cemetery!🌳

LGC would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to our wonderful partners, the Lemont Lions Club and the Lemont Park District. The Lions Club generously donated the funds to purchase all the plants for Phase 1 of our project this past spring. Director, Kyle M. and his awesome crew at the Park District, continually maintained the DC throughout the season.

Working together has been hard work, but it also has been a rewarding experience! It’s amazing what can happen when a community comes together with a shared vision for making a difference.

Another very special THANK YOU to a local gardener and friend, John G., who generously donated several native plants and 20 hand-grown trees to line the back of the area. John also rolled up his sleeves and helped plant!🌳 His generosity and hands-on support mean so much to this project.

Next year, those trees will bring beautiful color and even more life to the landscape. What began as a vision a few years ago, has transformed into something special. Together, we are growing something beautiful!🌳🌻

This chilly fall morning was perfect weather to put the Lemont Community Garden to sleep for the winter. Hard working members cleaned and weeded the garden beds then covered them with a layer of straw.

A total of 312 pounds of produce was donated to our food pantries this year. MANY THANKS to all the volunteers who worked hard over the summer to keep the garden growing, picked and weighed the vegetables and delivered them to the food pantries. Way to Grow! 🌱

Have you ever heard of a “Friendship Plant?” Do you have them in your garden?

Members at our October meeting found out that Hostas are also referred to as Friendship Plants. Our speaker Mike Kraus enlightened our group on the wonderful world of Hostas. These versatile plants can be used in many ways in your garden. From focal features to border plants and ground cover and with over 7200 varieties there are so many ways to use them. Hostas belong in every garden.

Last evening our LGC member Daniel was the guest speaker at the Darien Garden Club. He demonstrated creating floral arrangements for autumn and Christmas in clever vessels including a real pumpkin and a thrifted sleigh. For autumn, Daniel used a combination of floral elements from his garden as well as flowers from the grocery store. The Christmas container used a variety of artificial greens, berries and accent pieces but he stated that the same display could be made using evergreens from your yard. Daniel’s creativity and knowledge really inspired the large group. Way to go Daniel!
