Hello, I am writing to inform everyone about the Leland Town & Country Association. We are a group of individuals from town and country who come together starting august on the 1st Tuesday at 7 pm at resource bank come join in to plan events in town, such as the parade, fireworks, Little Miss Sparkler and Little Mr. Firecracker contest, Christmas in the Village which is our event to raise funds for our school scholarships, Easter event ,and a barbecue event and R.C car races in April, as well as on July 3rd. We typically host a meal to support the following year's fireworks or to cover ongoing expenses, so we could use additional volunteers to assist. Thank you, L.T.C.A. Kim Nilles

GERALD D. FUCHS - GRAND MARSHAL
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY AND HAPPY 250 YEARS OF FREEDOM TO AMERICA

Gerald D. Fuchs was a pillar of the community! A community he loved and was very proud of. He left a LEGACY of service to our community and to our country.

Gerald D Fuchs was born in Leland on August 26th 1947. He joined the Navy August 24th 1965 as a Naval Aviation Aircraft Mechanic, along with many other skills and duties he trained in and was certified for. Gerald was stationed in Hawaii, Japan and Vietnam, just to name a few. He was honorably discharged from active duty and transferred to the Naval Reserve December 09, 1968, until August 23, 1971. He continued on by joining the Army National Guard, He was a member of Troop B 1st Squadron of the 194th Cavalry from October 1st 1976 to April 30th 1987. Gerald had always wanted to serve his country. Not only because of his love, pride and belief in his country, it was to follow in the footsteps of a long line of family members that served our country.
He married Barbara Fuchs 11/04/1969 and has 3 children and 2 grandchildren, in which he raised to honor and respect our country and to love each other unconditionally. He loved to fish, boating, camping, ride his Golf cart or Kabota around town, with his sidekick Bear! Most of all he loved to talk with old friends and make new friends. If you needed advise he would offer it, if you needed an ear to listen, he gave it. If you needed a helping hand, he was the first to offer it.

He was held several positions within the American Legion Post #570 and within the community, during his lifetime.
He served as:
• HE WAS A LIFETIME MEMBER OF THE SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION
• POST COMMANDER FOR 12 YEARS
• FIRST and SECOND VICE COMMANDER
• SERGEANT-AT-ARMS
• PAST COMMANDER LASALLE COUNTY AMERICAN LEGION

• HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE LTCA & THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
• EVERY TIME HE WAS CALLED TO VOLUNTEER AT THE VOTING POLL HE WAS THERE
• VOLUNTEER ON THE LELAND FIRE DEPARTMENT
• HE WORKED FOR COM-ED FOR 30+ YEARS THEN RETIRED.
• COMMANDER FUCHS IN EARLY 2008, WROTE A RESOLUTION, THIS RESOLUTION WAS TO CHANGE THE PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE AMERICAN LEGION WRITTEN IN 1919. THIS WAS TO CHANGE FROM “OUR ASSOCIATIONS IN THE “GREAT WARS” TO “OUR ASSOCIATIONS IN ALL WARS”. THIS RESOLUTION BECAME THE AMERICAN LEGION LAW OF THE LAND AT THE NATIONAL CONVENTION IN 2019.

MY FAMILY AND I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR HONORING MY FATHER. HE WOULD OF BEEN TOUCHED, HONORED AND FOREVER GRATEFUL.

IN HONOR OF MY DAD, GERALD (SARGE) FUCHS
