I'm not even sure how to post this. To say I am devastated is an understatement. We lost Djet yesterday, the beautiful stallion from Cleburne. The vet was out in the AM to geld both boys. Other than some abnormalities he noted on Djet, it seemingly went well. What he found were misshapen, hardened te**es and injuries to some of the blood vessels. All he could think of and ask is "was he out with mares", which to our knowledge he was. He believes he had trauma, possibly kicked in the groin which caused the internal injuries. Because of those injuries and large vessels due to his age, they were ligated (both boys). Moving forward, the sedation wears off and he started acting colicky, wanting to roll and just generally uncomfortable, sweating profusely. He also started bleeding. Vet said just let him rest but keep an eye on him and give banamine. We did all that but to no avail. He actually herniated and was euthanized last night. I have never seen this happen in 59 years in horses and our vet said he never had seen it in his 30 years as a vet. He believes the intestinal blood vessel was weakened from the injury and burst. RIP Djet, everything that has happened to you should never have happened and I apologize for everyone who has caused you pain in your life, especially me. Sometimes doing the right thing produces the wrong outcome.
