🚒 The Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments 49th Annual Conference was held this past week, proudly hosted by the Colbert County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments at the North Alabama Fairgrounds.

Throughout the week, several members of the Leighton Volunteer Fire Department attended numerous trainings and educational classes leading up to the official conference events that began Friday and concluded Saturday night. These classes and hands-on trainings provide valuable knowledge, skills, and experience that help us continue serving and protecting our town and surrounding communities at the highest level possible.

We would like to thank all of our firefighters who dedicated their time this week to attend trainings, assist with conference activities, and continue advancing their education in the fire service. Your dedication and commitment do not go unnoticed, and your efforts help make the Town of Leighton and our community a safer place for everyone.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this year’s conference a success. 🚒

🚧 RAILROAD CROSSING CLOSED | COLBERT COUNTY 🚧 - 6/4/26 - 4:15pm:

Motorists are advised that the railroad crossing at **Old Highway 20 and Fennel Road** in the Leighton area of Colbert County is **closed until further notice** for repairs.

🚂 Crews are working to complete repairs at the crossing.

⚠️ Drivers should plan ahead and use alternate routes while the crossing remains closed.

📍 Location: Old Highway 20 & Fennel Road
🕓 Reported: June 4, 2026 at approximately 4:15 PM

Please use caution in the area and watch for work crews and traffic control devices.

💚 Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

The Leighton Volunteer Fire Department would like to take a moment this June to recognize the importance of men’s mental health awareness.

As firefighters, first responders, fathers, brothers, sons, and friends, many men carry heavy burdens in silence. We want everyone to know that asking for help is not weakness — it is strength.

Mental health struggles can affect anyone, and no one should feel alone in what they are facing. Whether it’s stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply feeling overwhelmed, it is okay to speak up and seek support.

To all of our fellow first responders and community members:
💚 You matter.
💚 Your life matters.
💚 Your mental health matters.

Check on your friends. Check on your family. Check on your brothers beside you.

Together, we can continue breaking the stigma and reminding others that strength is found in unity, support, and compassion.

Get your team together and come out for a great day of softball, competition, and community support with the Leighton Fire Department!

📅 AUGUST 1ST⏰ Starting at 8:00 AM📍 Colbert County Softball Field

💲 Teams are $100 per team👥 Player maximum of 10 and minimum of 9 players📝 Team Registration Ends July 17th

🏆 WINNER AND RUNNER UP will get the opportunity to play against the 2026 Class 3A State Runner-Up Lady Indians Softball Team! 🥎🔥

📌 Tournament Rules & Format:• Games are 7 innings, 1 hour and 30 minutes, or mercy rule — whichever comes first• All teams will compete in a double elimination tournament• Once teams are registered and brackets are set, your first game time will be scheduled and teams will be notified

🚒🇺🇸 MEMORIAL DAY 🇺🇸🚒

Today, the Leighton Volunteer Fire Department pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the true cost of freedom and to pay tribute to those who gave everything so that we may live in safety and liberty. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We also extend our deepest respect to the families of the fallen, whose strength and sacrifice continue every day.

From all of us at LVFD, we honor the heroes who gave their lives for our nation.

From all of us back home in Leighton and across Colbert County, we are extremely proud of the hard work, determination, and dedication each of you have shown throughout the season. You represented your school, community, and tribe with pride both on and off the field.
