Compassionate Savior,

I come to You feeling weary and burdened, so I ask You to give me rest. Only You know the depth and breadth of my weariness. Nothing is hidden from You! You’ve been showing me that there’s a time to keep pushing myself and there’s a time to stop working—and just rest. Even You, who have infinite energy, rested on the seventh day after completing Your work of creation.

I want to spend time lingering in Your loving Presence while Your Face shines upon me. As favorite scriptures amble through my brain, they refresh my heart and spirit. When something comes to mind that I don’t want to forget, I’ll jot it down and then return my attention to You. As I’m relaxing with You, may Your Love soak into the depths of my being. I delight in expressing my love to You—in whispers, spoken words, and song.

Help me to believe that You approve of me and You approve of rest. While I relax in Your Presence, trusting in Your finished work on the cross, I am deeply refreshed.

In Your invigorating Name, Jesus,

God of grace,

I come to You for understanding since You know me far better than I know myself. You comprehend me in all my complexity; no detail of my life is hidden from You. Yet I don’t need to fear Your intimate awareness of me because I know that You view me through eyes of grace. Lord, I want the Light of Your healing Presence to shine into the deepest recesses of my being—cleansing, healing, refreshing, and renewing me.

Help me to trust You enough to accept the full forgiveness that You offer me continually. This glorious gift cost You Your Life, and it is mine for all eternity! I’m grateful that forgiveness is at the very core of Your abiding Presence. You assure me through Your Word: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

When no one else seems to understand me, I can simply draw nearer to You—rejoicing in the One who understands me completely and loves me perfectly. As You fill me with Your Love, I long to become a reservoir of love that overflows into the lives of other people.

In Your lovely Name, Jesus,

Father, I stand before You today feeling like the bright colors of my purpose have been dimmed by the dust of trials. Like Joseph, I have known the joy of Your favor, only to find myself in the depth of a pit or the isolation of a prison I did not choose. Lord, teach me to trust that even when my circumstances change, Your character remains the same. Help me to be faithful in the small, hidden places while I wait for the fulfillment of the dreams You whispered to my heart. I release my grip on the outcome and rest in Your sovereignty. May I feel the warmth of Your presence even in the coldest seasons.

Father, I stand before You in the quiet of this new day, holding out my empty jar. I confess my tendency to rely on my own strength, but today I choose to be hollowed out so that I might be filled by You. Lord, pour Your grace into every crack and corner of my heart. Gentle Jesus

Sometimes I need Your help even to ask for help. As I try to do several things at once, I find myself moving faster and faster—interrupting one thing to do another. If my phone rings at such a time, my stress level rises even higher. Only when I stop everything, take a few deep breaths, and whisper Your Name do I begin to calm down. Then I can acknowledge my need for You to guide me through the day. You have promised to lead me in paths of righteousness for Your Name’s sake.

When I’m preparing to do something challenging, I usually take time to ask for Your help. But when I do everyday tasks, I tend to dive in unassisted—acting as if I can handle these matters alone. Yet it’s so much better to approach everything in humble dependence on You. Whenever I’m feeling tempted to just dive in, I need to stop and turn to You—asking You to show me the way forward. As I wait in Your loving Presence, I delight in hearing You speak these words of assurance: “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.”

In Your reassuring Name,

Thank You for the gift of a fresh beginning and for Your faithfulness that never fails. Help me leave yesterday's regrets behind and walk forward with renewed hope. Fill my heart with expectancy for what You will do today. Let me greet this new day with gratitude, courage, and trust in Your unfailing love.

Jesus, my faithful Guide,

I delight in spending time with You—meditating on Your unfailing Love. For You are my God forever and ever. Please help me, through Your Spirit, to bring my mind back to You whenever it wanders.

I find great encouragement in the words of Jacob: “Surely the Lord is in this place.” No matter where I am, You are with me. I’m so grateful that You are my God forevermore—today, tomorrow, and throughout all eternity!

You are also my Guide. It’s easy for me to be spooked by the future when I forget that You’re leading me each step along my life-path. Yet Your guiding Presence has been available to me ever since I trusted You as my Savior. You’ve been training me to be increasingly aware of You as I go about my daily activities. One way I’m learning to draw near You is by whispering Your Name. This reminds me that You are close beside me. Instead of worrying about anything, I can bring You my requests through prayer and petition with thanksgiving. How I rejoice in the wondrous assurance that You will be my Guide even to the end!

In Your blessed, eternal Name,

Splendid Savior

Your Word tells me: If anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. This sounds easy, but putting it into practice is really hard for me.

I’ve seen how countercultural it is to focus on admirable things. People who work in the media almost always shine their spotlights on negative news. They rarely bother to report good things that are happening—especially the many good things Your people are doing.

I admit that having a positive focus is not only countercultural but counter to my fallen nature. When Adam and Eve rebelled against You, everything was damaged by the Fall—including my mind. As a result, focusing on excellent, admirable things is not at all natural to me. It requires persistent effort, trying to make the right choice over and over again. Lord, please help me choose to look for what is good—daily, moment by moment.

In spite of the massive problems in this world, there is much that is worthy of praise. I rejoice that You, the One who is the most praiseworthy, are continually with me—closer than my thoughts!

In Your excellent, admirable Name, Jesus,

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Father, I’m tired of carrying what You never asked me to hold.

I release the worries that keep looping in my mind: the timelines, the “what ifs,” the need to control outcomes. Lord, even my dreams… I lay them down in Your hands again. If they’re from You, breathe on them. If they’re not, gently loosen my grip.

Teach me to trust You with my future the way a child trusts the One holding the strings.

“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” Psalm 37:5
