Today, we remember those killed on September 11, 2001, honor survivors and the 9/11 community, and recognize the service of first responders, rescue and recovery workers, caregivers, and neighbors.

Twenty-five years later, remembrance asks us to carry compassion, courage, and service forward.

Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

Tim Ballard recalls joining Homeland Security Investigations on the U.S. border and being assigned to a child-crimes group. He says that experience changed him permanently: once he saw what children were facing, the mission to protect them became something he could never walk away from.

That is why human trafficking awareness matters. Understanding the realities of child exploitation and child trafficking can move people from simply knowing there is a problem to recognizing why prevention, lawful investigations, strong partnerships, and child protection matter.

A threat can arrive in a single message. A child should never face it alone.

NCMEC received more than 50,000 reports of financially motivated sextortion in 2025 - an average of 137 reports each day. These are reports, not confirmed unique victims.

If a child tells you they are being threatened, lead with three truths: "I believe you. This is not your fault. You are not in trouble." Then save available evidence, report the account, and reach official help.
