📣 Vernon Parish 4-H is looking for additional 9th-12th grade boys to serve as Junior Counselors for 2026 4-H Summer Camp at Camp Grant Walker July 27-30! ☀️🏕️

This year, our Vernon Parish delegation will also be helping support and work alongside campers from other parishes during Week 9 camp. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, build leadership skills, and represent Vernon Parish 4-H in a big way.

If you attended camp as a younger 4-H’er, you already know the memories, friendships, and fun that come with a week at camp. Now’s your chance to help create that same experience for younger campers from across Louisiana.

Junior Counselors assist with activities, encourage campers, help adult staff, and serve as positive role models throughout the week.

If you enjoy leadership, working with younger students, and having fun, we’d love to have you join us this summer.

Sometimes cleaning out old files turns into an educational afternoon!

A big thank you to two Evans High School 4-H’ers for helping around the office today as we worked through some older records and materials. While digging through history, we came across this old Louisiana Cattlemen’s “Breeder Meter” and took the opportunity for a quick lesson on livestock breeding dates and gestation cycles.

From cattle and goats to rabbits and more, it sparked some great conversation about the different animals our 4-H’ers raise at home and the responsibilities that come with caring for them.

You never know what kind of learning can happen in 4-H! 🍀

🧭🌎 PASSPORT TO ADVENTURE IS COMING TO THE VERNON PARISH FAIRGROUNDS! 🌎🧭

Adventure awaits this summer as Vernon and Beauregard Parish 4-H invite youth entering 4th-6th grade to join us for the 2026 Passport to Adventure Day Camp!

Campers will spend the day traveling through exciting hands-on adventure stations including:
🌿 Wetlands Exploration
🐄 Ranch & Livestock Trail
🎯 Outdoor Skills Challenge
💡 Discovery Lab
💦 Splash Zone Finale

Each camper will receive their own official Adventure Passport and collect stamps as they complete each experience throughout the day!

Today, Vernon Parish 4-H pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is more than the beginning of summer — it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy each day.

Here in Vernon Parish, alongside our neighbors at Fort Polk, military service and sacrifice are deeply woven into the fabric of our community. Many of our 4-H families, volunteers, leaders, and youth proudly serve or have loved ones who serve our country.

To the fallen heroes and the Gold Star families who carry their memory forward, we thank you. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends today, may we also take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and honor those who gave their lives in service to the United States of America. 🇺🇸

Vernon Parish 4-H would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Tammy Cecil for the countless hours, dedication, and passion she has poured into building and coaching our Culinary Arts Team and helping grow the Culinary Arts Program in Vernon Parish 4-H. 💚👩‍🍳

Her investment in these young people goes far beyond competitions. She is helping students build confidence, teamwork, leadership, life skills, and a love for culinary arts that will stay with them for years to come.

We are also incredibly thankful for the community partnerships and connections she continues to foster, including St. Michael’s Church in Leesville and the Lions Camp in Anacoco for allowing our students the opportunity to cook, learn, and practice in their facilities. These partnerships truly make a difference for our youth.

Thank you Mrs. Tammy for believing in our 4-H’ers and helping them achieve success both in and out of the kitchen! 🍴🏆

🥈 SO CLOSE! 🥈

Our Vernon Parish 4-H High School Culinary Arts Team brought home 2nd Place in Louisiana today at the State 4-H Food Challenge held at the Evac Shelter in Alexandria! 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳🔥

The competition was incredibly tight — so close that judges had to go back and recount scores to confirm the final placements. We could not be more proud of how these students represented Vernon Parish under pressure, showing outstanding teamwork, culinary skill, creativity, and professionalism.

Their secret ingredient challenge? 🥦 Cauliflower!

Congratulations as well to East Baton Rouge Parish on earning the State Title and the invitation to represent Louisiana at the National Food Challenge in Texas later this year. We wish them the best of luck!

Our High School Culinary Arts Team is competing today for the Louisiana 4-H Food Challenge State Title — and they’re already making a statement as the FIRST team to the grills! 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳🔥

From knife skills and food safety to teamwork and creativity under pressure, these students have worked hard preparing for this moment. We’re proud to see them representing Vernon Parish with confidence, leadership, and determination.
