After taking suggestions, and prayerfully considering it, we are changing the name of our monastery to the Holy Monastery of the Disciples.

Obviously Saint Benedict has been a mentor to me, and I love reading his writings, unfortunately because of the long history of the use of the name Benedict, there are also many negative attachments.

The Disciples are of course the men who followed Jesus Christ, during his ministry on earth. We are very familiar with the disciples, the books named after them, Matthew Mark, Luke, John, etc.

These men were not perfect. most of the stories about them or about their lack of faith, how they failed, how they denied Christ three times, how they cut off some guys ear, how they were constantly saying stupid things.

And yet they were the ones who were chosen by Christ to carry the mission forward. We are all here because they were faithful to the cause.

It became the goal of the disciples, after Jesus left, to feed the needy, to take care of widows, and orphans. To spread the gospel of Jesus Christ around the globe.

We accept this mission as well. We hope you will pray with us about the work that we are now doing, and intend to do even more fully, around the world.

A monastery is a place where people live, worship, and do work, for God.

The Holy Monastery of the Disciples has yet to be built. Now only a concept, the land has been secured, funding is being secured, and basic improvements and infrastructure are currently being built.

There is a five phase building program, and we are currently in phase 2. This includes infrastructure, power, septic, water, parking lots, a parsonage, a place for visiting brothers to bring RVs, Internet, guest Wi-Fi, cooking, and bathroom facilities. The goal is to be able to host up to 70 people for fundraising events.

Phase 3 will begin in 2023, and will include completing legal permitting and fundraising in conjunction with the South Carolina foster care system. We will also be securing an additional 30 acres adjoining the monastery. Additional guest housing, missionary training facilities for future worldwide orphanages, a chapel for community church services, and further infrastructure will be added.

Phase 4 is in 2024, Which will see us build a residential children’s home staffed by a full-time family, able to raise up to six children in a family environment.

Phase 5: involves the addition of a women's transitional home, and a therapeutic garden for farming Certified Organic South Carolina vegetables. Studies have shown that agricultural work is very therapeutic for those in transitional times.

The Holy Monastery of the Disciples was founded by James Disciple Johnson, founder of Disciple Christian Motorcycle Club (DCMC), and Disciples Way Christian Coffeehouse, A global network of nondenominational Christian biker churches. James was a orphan himself, in the New York City orphanage system, which is a driving reason for his desire to protect orphans worldwide.

Disciple Christian Motorcycle Club is The worlds largest Christian motorcycle club, focused on discipling men to have a daily word and prayer time, and support the 1% motorcycle club world in prayer. This organization has fund raised money for a variety of women’s shelters, and children’s homes around the world since 2009, and there’s a major funding backer for the Holy Monastery of the Disciples.

We hope that you will take a moment to follow our page, and pray for us when you see our updates. If you wish to give, you can use the link below, to help us build!

UPDATE: The name of the monastery has been changed since the writing of this article.

The New Monasticism

The Monastery of Holy Saint Benedict is currently 3 acres in Batesburg SC dedicated as a global Christian leadership Retreat. It's expansion plans include an additional 33 acres, a Monastery and Convent for missionary training, a children's home for orphans, and a home for the protection of traumatized women.

A monastery is a land sanctified and dedicated for people to live and worship, devoting their time and life to God and good works. The people who live in the monastery are called monks and nuns, or brothers and sisters. They may be either single or married, and have taken a vow, or Monastic Commitment, of service to God, and a selfless life.

The term monastery is it no way associated with just one religion. Christians, Catholics, Buddhists, Hindus, and many other religions build monasteries. our monastery is of course a Christian monastery. Following typical Evangelical Christian doctrine.

The monastery is self contained, meaning everything the monks need is provided by the monastery community through hard work, fundraising, and partnerships in the Christian, and business community.

Monasteries or convents are often known for taking care of the poor, orphanages, the protection of abused women, and for their chapels.

Saint Benedict of Nursia (542 A.D) was an early church father, who wrote the original set of bylaws for how Christian groups of men, or women, working together for the kingdom of God, should conduct themselves. He is known as the father of western monasticism. While many connect Saint Benedict with the Catholic Church, it is in fact true that the Catholic Church shunned him in his day, and attempted to kill him. he and his name do not necessarily represent Catholicism, but monasticism.

I believe that the New Monasticism is brotherhood, and separately, and sisterhood, with the addition of faith in Jesus Christ. Men minister to men, women minister to women.

The New Monasticism includes men who are married, and their wives, dedicating their lives to serve in God and their communities. It includes single people, regular hardworking people who may be living at home, working a job, and devoting their spare time to good works. These people live under the ancient three monastic commitments that have always been required, outlined below.

Stability, fidelity, obedience.

Stability. Staying with the same group of people. Accepting discipline when necessary. Working together for the greater good. Working to help each other maintain sobriety, be epic fathers, husbands, men and women of God.

Fidelity. Faithful unto death. Faithful to the cause. Willing to self sacrifice for the greater good. Willing to work together seamlessly for the cause the brotherhood, and sisterhood, have developed. This also includes fidelity in your relationships. Being faithful to your friends is the basis of all brotherhood and sisterhood. Fidelity in choosing a partner and staying with them in a committed relationship before God.

Obedience. Obedience to God, listening for the voice of God, conducting a style of life that shows obedience to the principles outlined in the Bible. Obedience to leadership, those put in place by God to run the affairs of the Christian community. Obedience to the cause, willing to sacrifice, willing to be hospitable, willing to put up with others who have different cultural beliefs.

This is the New Monasticism, and if you are Reading this, you are called to it. God has put a calling in your heart, adesire to join other Christians to do something great for your community. No more just to sit in the pew at the church and receive a free spiritual meal, without any work or commitment. Separate sisterhood, and brotherhood, added together with Jesus. A desire to take the commitment seriously, and dive deeper.

We are the Monastery of Holy Saint Benedict.
