WEEKEND FAITH WORKOUT
READY
“Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts.” —Psalm 90:12
SET
One of the most infamous timeout calls was made by the University of Michigan Men’s Basketball team during the 1993 National Collegiate Championship game. With eleven seconds remaining, and down by two points, Chris Weber of Michigan called timeout. The problem was, Michigan didn’t have any timeouts remaining. As a result, a technical foul was called. The opposing team shot two free-throws and won the game by four points. It was a devastating mistake.
The idea of taking “timeouts” in daily life for an athlete is just as important, probably far more important than a game timeout. What is it you need for your daily timeout? As your life moves fast through each day, you need to have moments and minutes to stop and take a timeout so you can pause and reflect. A few key questions to ask yourself are: how am I doing today? Am I making the most of today? Am I living, thinking and behaving appropriately, and honorably to God, to my family and myself?
One of the greatest leaders of all time, from the Bible, was Moses. Later in his life he wrote Psalm 90:12, “Teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts”. He was asking God to help him, and us, to understand and value each day. It was a request to allow God to give His perspective on each day. Like taking a timeout in the game, we need to stop and gain insight and gain perspective on what’s really happening around us. At a deeper level, and more importantly, we need a timeout to gain perspective on what’s really going on in our hearts and minds. When we do this, we gain wisdom.
Ask God to help you understand and value each day. No day is wasted. We can’t push and push through days, weeks, months and years without calling a timeout. You have as many timeouts as you need. The thing is, when you do stop, know why you need to stop. God is always waiting for you to come seek Him and receive from Him understanding and wisdom.

OVERTIME
"Heavenly Father, I come to You to ask for understanding so that I will gain wisdom. I want to act and respond in a right way to every situation. Help me to stop daily and take a timeout with You. I need You for this. I trust in You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen."
