NAACP Loudoun Branch General Meeting CANCELED Tonight!

Dear NAACP Family,
Out of an abundance of caution and concern for everyone’s safety, tonight’s March General Meeting has been cancelled due to the impending storm. Please stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel this evening.

Our work continues, and we look forward to gathering again in strength and unity at our next General Meeting on April 20, 2026.
Thank you for your continued commitment to justice, equity, and community. Even when meetings pause, the mission of the NAACP moves forward through each of us.
Stay safe, take care of your families, and we will see you soon.

In Solidarity,
Bishop Michelle C. Thomas
President, NAACP Loudoun Branch

“This is what CommUNITY looks like”

03/03/2026

in 1913, more than 5,000 women marched down Pennsylvania Avenue in D.C. to demand the right to vote, marking the first suffrage parade and the first large, organized march on Washington for political purposes. The 1913 Woman Suffrage Procession through Washington, D.C. changed the way protests were viewed and carried out by the American public, and laid the foundation for future marches.

The Procession, unprecedented in both its scale and its tactics, was a major turning point for the woman suffrage movement in the United States. Suffrage leader Alice Paul, who was recently elected head of the National American Woman Suffrage Association’s Congressional Committee, devised the idea for a large-scale public demonstration. Paul, who had spent time in England, witnessed the more militant tactics that the British suffragists used to draw attention to their cause.

Parade organizers strategically selected March 3, 1913 for the march. Woodrow Wilson was to be inaugurated as the new President the following day, and national press was in town and idly awaiting the inaugural festivities.

Paul insisted that the parade march down Pennsylvania Avenue, deliberately following the same route that the inaugural parade would take the next day. The contrast between the two parades would prove striking. Reporters flocked to the suffrage parade, leaving Wilson to arrive at the train station unheralded.

Despite the chaos and violence that initially ensued during the parade, Paul declared the event a success. The parade made national headlines and once again captured the public’s interest in the suffrage movement. Even those who opposed votes for women acknowledged that, as citizens, the women had the right to peacefully assemble.

What a night. What a movement. What a CommUNITY!!

On behalf of the NAACP, THANK YOU.
To every volunteer who greeted guests with a smile, managed logistics, worked the registration table, coordinated décor, handled programs, and stayed late to clean up, you are the quiet strength behind the success. You gave your time, your energy, and your heart. We see you. We honor you.

To our sponsors and partners, thank you for investing in justice. Your generosity does more than fund an event; it fuels advocacy, protects voting rights, strengthens civic engagement, and empowers the next generation of leaders. Because of you, the work continues beyond the ballroom.

To our community partners, faith leaders, educators, business owners, grassroots organizers, thank you for locking arms with us. Collaboration is not convenience; it is commitment. And your presence proves that when we move together, we move powerfully.

And to every attendee who purchased a ticket, made a pledge, brought a guest, or simply showed up, thank you. Your presence was a declaration that freedom work still matters. That equity still matters. That truth still matters.

Last night was more than a gala.
It was legacy in motion.
It was purpose on display.
It was generations standing shoulder to shoulder.

This is what CommUNITY looks like.
It looks like shared responsibility.
It looks like collective courage.
It looks like love expressed through action.

Free people free people.
And when we gather like this, across backgrounds, across sectors, across generations, we remind the world that the freedom movement is alive and well.

Thank you for believing. Thank you for building. Thank you for standing. The work continues, and because of you, so does the impact. See you on the front lines!

VOTE TODAY LIKE YOUR RIGHTS DEPENDS ON IT……Your voice. Your power. Your vote!!

Our ancestors marched, bled, and died for this right. From the courage of those who faced poll taxes and literacy tests, to the foot soldiers of Selma who crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge — every vote cast today is a continuation of their legacy.

We honor their sacrifice by showing up at the ballot box, not sitting on the sidelines. Let’s keep building the future they dreamed of.
