A Reflection on Life, Suffering, and Our Shared Humanity
Over the years, I’ve come to a sobering realization: this life has no fixed meaning—only the meaning we choose to create within it. For many people around the world—and certainly for many in our beloved Mosul—life is not easy. It is filled with hardship, loss, and quiet struggles.
But the Qur’an reminds us of a deeper purpose:
“[He] who created death and life to test you—which of you is best in deeds.” (67:2)
For me, this verse is not about material success or outward achievements.
It is about excellence in something more profound—
Excellence in recovery.
Excellence in healing.
Excellence in comforting others.
We cannot change human nature. And history shows us that the world is often ruled by the powerful—those who, too often, lack mercy and compassion. But that is exactly why those of us who still carry love, care, empathy, and kindness in our hearts must step forward.
We are the ones who offer hope when all seems lost.
We are the ones who listen, who embrace, who sit beside the wounded and whisper, "You are not alone."
We may not have power, but we have humanity—and that is more precious than gold.
At Mosul Recovery Foundation, we believe in this mission.
We don’t just rebuild homes—we rebuild lives.
We don’t just offer aid—we offer dignity.
We don’t just provide services—we provide hope.
In a world where suffering is real, we choose to be among those who heal.
If you believe in this vision—of compassion over cruelty, of healing over harm—then you are part of our community. You are part of this quiet revolution of care.
Let us continue to be the gentle hands that lift, the soft voices that soothe, and the resilient hearts that never stop loving—even in the face of pain.
This is the excellence we strive for.
This is the test we choose to pass.
