Animals can’t speak for themselves, but YOU can be their voice. If you witness or believe there might be animal cruelty or neglect, don’t stay silent—report it. Together, we can protect the innocent lives that depend on us.

❤️ What to Look For:
🐾Animals without access to food, water, or shelter.
🐾Visible signs of injury, illness, or malnourishment.
🐾Pets left outside in extreme weather conditions.
🐾Evidence of abuse, such as physical harm or neglect.

📞 What to Do:
✅Report It: Contact Loudoun County Animal Services to report concerns.
✅Stay Observant: Document details like location, date, and a description of the situation.

🐾🌸 Lilies and Pets: A Beautiful Flower with a Serious Risk 🌸🐾

Lilies may brighten your home or garden, but for pets—especially cats—they can be extremely dangerous.

⚠️ For Cats:
Even a small amount of exposure can be life-threatening. Chewing a leaf, licking pollen from their fur, or even drinking water from a vase containing lilies can cause severe kidney failure.

⚠️ For Dogs:
While most true lilies do not cause kidney failure in dogs, they can still cause stomach upset, drooling, vomiting, and other signs of illness. Some lily species, such as lily of the valley, can cause serious heart problems in both dogs and cats.

🐱 If you have cats, it's safest to avoid bringing lilies into your home altogether.

Know the Signs of Lily Poisoning
🚨 Vomiting
🚨 Drooling
🚨 Loss of appetite
🚨 Lethargy
🚨 Increased or decreased urination

If you think your pet has come into contact with a lily, don't wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital immediately. Quick treatment can make all the difference.

🚫🔥 Never Leave Pets in a Hot Car 🔥🚫

Even on a mild day, the inside of a parked car can become dangerously hot in just minutes—putting your pet’s life at serious risk. Cracking a window doesn’t help enough to keep them safe.

🚗💔 On an 85°F day, a car’s interior can reach 102°F in just 10 minutes. In 30 minutes? 120°F. That’s deadly for pets.

🐾 If You See a Pet in a Hot Car:
1️⃣ Check the pet’s condition—are they panting heavily, drooling, or unresponsive?
2️⃣ Write down the make, model, and license plate number.
3️⃣ Notify nearby businesses to locate the owner quickly.
4️⃣ Call your local authorities or animal control immediately.
5️⃣ Step away from the car, but keep it in sight. Standing too close may increase the animal's stress.

Did you know that Loudoun County government recently created an online interactive map of pet-friendly locations in the county? This interactive map lists veterinary clinics, pet-friendly parks and pet-friendly dining.

The goal of this initiative is to promote how pet-friendly Loudoun County is. The LCAAC is happy to say that we were a part of this project and support the shelter and county in this initiative.

🐾 Today is International Homeless Animals Day, a day to raise awareness about the millions of animals worldwide that are in need of loving homes. Let's come together to make a difference in the lives of these innocent creatures.

Every year, countless animals end up in shelters due to abandonment, neglect, or unfortunate circumstances. On this day, we acknowledge the importance of adoption and spaying/neutering to help control the homeless animal population.

Consider visiting Loudoun Animal Services, where you'll find loving companions waiting to be adopted. If you can't adopt, there are many other ways to help – volunteering, donating, and spreading awareness are all valuable contributions.
