May 7: Hickory Point - Mothers' Day Dinner

We love our Moms! All family members joined in showing our love and appreciation for our Troop Mothers. We were blessed to have two Troop Grandmothers join us as well! A super windy day kept our planned water activities limited to the shoreline. We will return!

April 23-24: St. Augustine, FL

By design, we planned for this overnight trip starting April 23rd, which is the Feast Day of St. George! St. George is the patron saint of military and scouting troops. Our local Troop number is #1513, in commemoration of Ponce de Leon's expedition to La Florida. St. Augustine will be an annual trip for our troop. We visited the following locations and learned a great deal!

-Castillo de San Marcos
-Mass at Cathedral Basilica
-National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche
-Ponce de Leon's Fountain of Youth Archeological Park

April 10th: We had a great day trip to Lake Griffin State Park. Although the high winds kept us from canoeing the canals, we made the most of our time by going on a great hike, grilling burgers n dogs and visiting the Mammoth Oak, which is the 2nd largest oak tree in Florida.

March 18th & 19th: The Troop had an excellent overnight camping trip at Sara Maude Mason Nature Preserve (Howey Nature Park). Our young men xooked their own meals, explored hiking trails and learned how to appropriately use hand tools, which we will continue to work on moving forward. All in all, it was a great trip!

Saturday March 5th: The Troops had the privilege of receiving a guided tour of the Lake Jem Fire Department. Big thanks to our Firefighting hosts, both Matts and Jim, for over 2 hours of knowledge sharing, patience and their continued service to our county! We followed up with a riverside hike at Lake Jem Park.

Some of our cadets joined Troop 13 from Ocala at Mutual Mine campground for a full weekend camp out. We explored caves, dodged bats and went fishing. The young men cooked all of their meals and cleaned up afterwards with adult supervision. As a group, we prayed the Rosary around the campfire each night. We successfully braved through a cold Saturday night and broke down camp in time Sunday for everyone to make it to Sunday Mass at their local parishes. Troop 1513 is very thankful for our Brothers of Troop 13 for allowing us to join them and for their hospitable spirit!
