One year ago, just days after Ryan’s birthday our family received the devastating news of a Stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis. In that moment, life felt uncertain and overwhelming. Ryan has had no doubt from the beginning that he would beat this. But we had no idea what the road ahead would look like.
What we could never have imagined was the incredible community that would rise up around us.
Over this past year, we have been carried by prayers, meals, messages, hugs, donations, check-ins, and countless acts of kindness both big and small. On the hardest days, you reminded us we were not walking this journey alone.
Cancer has changed our lives in many ways, but it has also shown us the goodness of people and the power of love and community. Because of all of you, there has still been laughter in our home, hope in difficult moments, and strength when we needed it most.
To every friend, family member, neighbor, doctor, and nurse who has supported us this past year: thank you. Your compassion has meant more than words can say, and our family will never forget it.
We got off the call this Sunday with Dr Burns and scheduling will happen this week, for the procedure in the next month. They will be targeting not only spots on Ryan’s liver which he said is 99% all healthy, but adding Ryan to their trial for histotrispy on the main tumor itself. Due to the density of pancreatic tumors they are hard for chemo to reach. Which is one of the reasons pancreatic cancer is so hard to treat. Their hypothesis is that the histotripsy breaks up the tumor and makes it more vulnerable to the chemo. So we are all in, and will be scheduled this coming week. 💜🙌
One year later, we are still fighting & learning how to live with this disease. We are still very hopeful, and deeply grateful for the village surrounding us every step of the way.
