Learning to walk Inclusion body myositis is a rare, progressive muscle disease. It quietly steals strength from the thighs and from the muscles that lift the feet. Knees buckle. Toes catch. Walking becomes a calculated risk.
This is not about giving up. It is about adapting with the right tools.
Ankle-foot orthoses keep the foot from dropping. Ground-reaction braces help stabilize a knee the quadriceps can no longer lock. A cane or poles add a third point of balance. A rollator with a higher seat lets you rest, and stand again, without fighting a low chair. When distances grow unsafe, a scooter or power chair saves strength for the life that still belongs to you.
