Water is filling all the lines. Pressures could be a little low but will normalize in the next few hours. Some may have pockets of air but that should resolve also. If your water looks cloudy out of the tap, that is trapped air. Let it sit for a minute and it will clear up.

We had a power outage cause our main storage tank east of Roll to run dry overnight. This caused v***r lock in our main lines. We're working as fast as we can to get water back flowing but some in the area near the tank may experiment little or no pressure until flow is restored.

We always share these tips and we are so grateful to all of our members for their diligent help in avoiding problems during tbe cold! Below are the usual tips that we always share before the extreme cold weather.

**PLEASE DO NOT OPERATE THE VALVE IN THE PICTURE BELOW ESPECIALLY WHEN THE TEMPS ARE BELOW FREEZING.**

With the cold weather coming in we have some tips to pass along in order to avoid problems:

1. To help keep your water meter from freezing, get a piece of insulation, an old pillow, old clothing, or even a few feed sacks and put in your meter can. This will help insulate your meter from the cold and keep the heat from the ground in the meter can.

2. If you have no water pressure at all, it is likely due to a frozen meter. Store a few jugs of water in your house or a warm place ahead of the cold. Try to warm the water up a little and pour the water over your meter. This will thaw your meter almost immediately.

3. If you have low water pressure, check for leaks under your house or on the water line going to your house. Low pressure is usually a sign of a break in your line.

4. As stated above, please avoid operating the valve on your meter. If your meter is frozen, the valve could also be frozen and if you twist the valve too hard it will break the valve possibly causing a leak and the valve will need to be replaced. To do this, we would need to dig up the main and shut the water off to change the valve.

We love helping in any way we can but would rather stay out of the cold weather. If you have questions or concerns about how to prepare for the cold, please call Landon at 405-306-5868.

Thank you for your help and please stay safe in the freezing weather!

We recently sent out some letters to members regarding possible lead in service lines. Just so you know, there is not any known lead in any main lines, service lines, wells, meters, or fittings in Red Star's water system. These letters were sent out as a requirement from the EPA. The EPA requires the water district to know what materials are present in the system and specifically the service line. The service line is the water line that connects the meter to the water main. This comes from the district water wells drilled into the Ogallala aquifer. If the water district does not have a physical record of the make up of the service line, recently seen the service line during repairs, or if it was installed previous to 1986, we are required to send these letters out to notify members. We are only notifying you if we do not know with 100% surety the material of your service line. We would like to reassure you that these are absolutely not lead but without physically seeing the service line, we can't make that statement. If you would like to know for sure, contact the water district to make arrangements with us for further investigations.

It's time for our annual reminder for the upcoming cold weather. Please read the reminders below as we go into a possible cold weather event this weekend. NEW THIS YEAR: if you take the lid off of your meter can, there is a wire now that goes from the meter lid to the meter. We have had many people pull this wire apart checking their meter. If this cable is pulled apart we cannot see the usage on your meter daily. If you do pull it apart, please contact us so that we can replace it. Thanks for all of your help and making our jobs easier in the cold weather!

We have a leak somewhere north of Hammon. If you live west or south of Hammon you are likely experiencing low water pressure. We are looking for the leak and will fix it as soon as we get it located. If you see unusual running or standing water, please let us know.

This post is to notify members that there will be a hearing over plans that the Board of Directors has to apply for a REAP Grant. The Board of Directors has voted to build an office/warehouse as a center for water district operations. This would add needed office space, a multipurpose room for board meetings, annual members meetings, instructional area, and warehouse to store parts and equipment. If you would like to attend the meeting and offer your input, please stop by the Red Star Brethren in Christ church fellowship hall from 10:00am-11:00am tomorrow, September 17th.
