Juneteenth • Race Amity Day • Freedom Protected

Today we honor Juneteenth and Massachusetts Race Amity Day.

Juneteenth commemorates the delayed arrival of freedom to the last enslaved African Americans in Texas in 1865 and reminds us that freedom must not only be won—it must be protected.

Race Amity Day invites us to build authentic relationships across differences and to cultivate communities rooted in dignity, belonging, and shared humanity.

At BRIDGE, we understand that freedom is connected to food justice, environmental justice, health, housing, education, cultural preservation, and the ability of communities to thrive on their own terms. We believe that liberation is both personal and collective, and that beloved community is something we build together every day.

As Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us:

“We refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt.”

And as Kellie Carter Jackson writes in We Refuse, freedom movements have always required courage, resistance, solidarity, and a refusal to accept injustice as inevitable.

Today, we honor those who struggled for freedom before us, celebrate those continuing the work today, and recommit ourselves to protecting freedom for generations to come.

❤️🖤💚

Freedom Protected. Community Connected. Justice Rooted.
