JROTC Luncheon May 9, 2024
Last week, MOAA Citrus County presented scholarship awards to three outstanding JROTC cadets, one from each of our Citrus County high schools. The scholarships celebrate each cadet’s achievements and will support their future education and military service. Sam Himmel, Citrus County School Superintendent was our keynote speaker. The ceremony was awe-inspiring, ending with a formal salute to Veterans in attendance, who stood and returned the cadets’ salute.
Cadet Major Avreigh R. Maddox (Army JROTC, Lecanto High School) – Cadet Major Maddox will attend the University of West Florida, where she will study finance and be a member of the Air Force ROTC unit. LTC David Brown, USA (Ret.) is senior JROTC instructor. (Evelyn H. Reading $1,500 Scholarship.)
Cadet Lieutenant Allysa Watt (Air Force JROTC, Citrus County High School) – Cadet Lt. Watts will attend Nova Southeastern. MSgt Eric Brown, USAF (Ret.) is senior JROTC instructor. (Evelyn H. Reading $1,500 Scholarship.)
Cadet LCDR Orlando Mercado – Cadet CDR Mercado will attend Jacksonville University, where he will study electrical engineering and be a member of the Naval ROTC program (Objective: Submarines). CWO5 Liz Rivera, USN (Ret.) is senior JROTC instructor. (CDR Bud Wise, USN, Ret. $1,500. Scholarship.)
