Thank you Rep. Weaknecht! The Senate needs to act now. The legislative window is closing quickly, and time is running out. We encourage everyone to contact their PA State Senator and make their voice heard to support HB 911. Our Officers stand ready to protect Pennsylvanians every day. I recently joined in the unanimous support of legislation that would ensure the dependents of fallen municipal police officers continue to have health insurance coverage.

House Bill 911 would provide insurance to the surviving spouse of the officer for his or her lifetime, and children would be covered until age 26. The proposal mirrors the benefits already available to Pennsylvania State Police families experiencing line-of-duty deaths.

When an officer gives his or her life in service to our Commonwealth, their mourning family members should not have to worry about access to insurance benefits. The bill is now pending consideration by the Senate.

Please call or email your PA State Senator. Tell them to support HB 911. The PA House did its job and unanimously passed HB 911 on September 30, providing ongoing health benefits to the survivors of fallen Officers. Many times, the families of fallen Municipal or Regional Police Officers attend their loved one’s funeral, no longer having health insurance. It’s an injustice on top of a tragedy. You will hear many say, “Never forget,” but one of the first things that happens is the survivors are literally forgotten. The PA Senate can right this wrong and get this Bill to the Governor’s desk. The window for this session to get the Bill passed is closing fast. ACT NOW AND PASS HB 911!
