We would like to welcome Academy Class 26-01 who began June 1st. After completing all their necessary onboarding requirements, they have been engaged in lecture and hands on training to build their skills. Aside from Class PT, the first 2 weeks focus heavily on fitness, SCBA confidence, air consumption, self rescue, and forcible entry. Week 3 continues to ramp up the intensity as they begin their Engine Company Operations. Keep pushing gentlemen.

Today members of 3197 took advantage of the nice weather and the training tower at station 1 to work on rope rescue skills. Lebanon Fire is proud to be an all emergency department capable of responding to not only fire and EMS emergencies but swift water rescue, ice rescue, confined space rescue, and high or low angle rescue. To remain proficient in all these skills it’s important to make the time to train frequently and ensure all members are familiar with their capabilities based on their training levels.

Some of our members traveled down to Boston to pay their respects to fallen brother Robert “Bobby” Kilduff Jr. (“BK”), a dedicated member of the Boston Fire Department and Rescue 2.

Firefighter Kilduff proudly served the City of Boston for 24 years and was also a United States Marine Corps veteran. A third-generation firefighter, Bobby was known throughout the department as a firefighter’s firefighter — someone who would do anything for his brothers and sisters on the job. He tragically lost his life while operating at a 3-alarm fire on Treadway Road in Dorchester after suffering severe injuries in the line of duty.

BK will be remembered for his courage, dedication, loyalty, and commitment to protecting the residents of Boston. Most importantly, he will be remembered as a devoted father, family man, friend, and brother.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with the Kilduff family, Rescue Company 2, Local 718, and all members of the Boston Fire Department during this incredibly difficult time.

On Sunday, Local 3197 members assigned to B shift were dispatched to a small brush fire in West Lebanon associated with a tree on power lines. Given the wind and dry conditions the full shift of 7 members responded with Engine 9 (2 members), Engine 11 (3), and Ambulance 3 (2) and quickly knocked down the fire. Off duty members were recalled for station coverage and staffed Ambulance 2 and Engine 7. During the hour and a half spent mopping up hot spots at the fire, A-2 responded to a medical call in West Leb; E-7 to a car crash in West Leb; A-3 was pulled from the fire to respond back to a medical in the City. E-11 was pulled from the fire to handle another medical in West Leb along with A-2. Off duty members were released and the duty crew then washed and repacked 700 feet of hose used at the fire. Total of 12 calls for the 24 hour shift. Roast chicken and veggies for dinner.

Today 1530- Not an unfamiliar sight, all three ambulances at Dartmouth ED. With our current minimum staffing levels, we are dedicating the entire duty crew to staffing the three ambulances when multiple medical calls happen simultaneously. This leaves us to rely on off-duty members to come in to provide engine coverage on emergency callbacks or requesting mutual aid into the city.

Today we had the pleasure of hosting 8th grade students from Lebanon Middle School for a job shadow day. They showed a lot of interest in both firefighting and EMS and got involved in some great conversations and hands-on activities.

It’s awesome to see that kind of enthusiasm for public service from the next generation. Big thanks to Lebanon Middle School for making it happen—great group and a really fun day!

The West Lebanon duty crew took advantage of a break in the calls and the nice weather to wash the apparatus and do a little Spring cleaning. Friendly reminder from Local 3197 that spring forward and fall back are excellent reminders to check your smoke detectors to ensure they are still in date and have working batteries.
