A 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization founded in 2014 for the purposes of promoting conservation and education in support of the Park and to assist its efforts to preserve and protect the many natural, cultural and scenic features. Friends of Cedars of Lebanon State Park – Annual Report 2021
Actions by the Friends of Cedars of Lebanon State Park included the following:
● Raised funds for p
ark projects by selling ice and firewood at the camp store.
● Assisted rangers with the W**d Wrangle.
● Provided refreshments for ranger led hikes, the W**d Wrangle, and the Elsie Quarterman Cedar
Glades Festival.
● Planted and maintained the pollinator garden at the Dixon Merritt Nature Center. Applied for
designation as a National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat and as a Monarch Waystation.
● Held a successful native plant sale at which the plants that sold were propagated by The Friends. The Friends have partnered with Wilson County
Master Gardeners to sow seeds and tend plants for the 2022 native plant sale.
● Hosted the Tennessee Environmental Council Tree Planting Day 2021 by promoting, sorting 62
orders, and distributing the trees.
● Worked with a ranger to flag the new Birding Trail.
● Provided burgers and hot dogs for exhibitors, and staffed food sales at WPA Day.
● Provided lights for the Halloween event.
● Provided for a band at a Saturday night concert at the campground.
● Purchased a broom winder for the Sadie Farm broom shop.
● Provided supplies at Sadie Farm for remodeling a chicken house and purchasing seeds for the
garden.
● Secured funds from and reported to the Tennessee State Library and Archives regarding the
implementation of a National Historical Publications and Records grant to rehouse and digitize
manuscripts and photographs. The Friends applied for that grant in fourth quarter 2020.
● Attended the virtual State Friends Conference to learn about legal requirements for 501 (c) 3
organizations.
● Provided gift baskets for park staff
