BREAKTHROUGH DUCHENNE NEWS — WHAT THIS COULD MEAN FOR FAMILIES
Huge attention is being given to a treatment called Deramiocel following new Phase 3 HOPE-3 trial results announced at the 2026 MDA Conference.
For many Duchenne families, this feels especially important because the results focus not only on muscle function — but HEART protection too.
The trial showed:
🫀 Slower progression of heart scarring (fibrosis)
💪 Slower decline in upper limb function
🍽️ Better preservation of everyday tasks such as eating independently
📉 Around an 83% slowing in disease progression in video-based daily living assessments
What makes this different is that Deramiocel may help boys and young men who are already non-ambulant — an area where treatment options remain extremely limited.
The FDA is currently reviewing the therapy, with a decision expected on August 22nd 2026.
This is still incredibly significant.
For years, many older Duchenne patients and families have felt left behind as treatments focused mainly on ambulant boys.
