Lebanon Oregon Legacy Club

Lebanon Oregon Legacy Club By providing hope and positive vision, the Lebanon Oregon Legacy Club bring out the best in kids. Come join us Thursdays at noon at James Gang Pizza.

Since 1919, and now in more than 2,800 Optimist Clubs around the world, the volunteers of Optimist International are dedicated to "Bringing Out the Best in Kids." Adult volunteers join Optimist Clubs to conduct positive service projects in their communities aimed at providing a helping hand to youth. With their upbeat attitude, Optimist Club members help empower young people to be the best they ca

n be. Each Optimist Club determines the needs of the young people in its community and conducts programs to meet those needs. Every year, Optimists conduct 65,000 service projects and serve well over six million young people. The Lebanon Optimists are a community service group concentrating on the development of opportunities for youth. We are a not-for-profit organization that operates on the income received from annual membership dues and various service events. Our motto is "A Friend of Youth." Our positive approach, upbeat outlook, and commitment to creating a more optimistic future for kids is what differentiates our club from any other civic group. Although we come from all walks of life, Lebanon Optimists share one common trait: We can make a difference in the lives of others. The Lebanon Optimists meet every Thursday for lunch at 12:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 51 on Main st. Our weekly meetings encompass discussions on the various activities we manage, promote and / or sponsor for the benefit of youth. We welcome all visitors in joining us as we share laughs, tell stories, and serve our community and beyond. Stop in and see us in action! We are happy to have all of those visiting who are interested in our mission!

Congratulations to member Wyatt King, our Lebanon Oregon Legacy Club Member of the Year, and board member Michelle Steinhebel, recipient of the Bill Rauch Unsung Hero Award.

Wyatt exemplifies what it means to be a Legacy Club member through his leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to the Lebanon community. Last year, he spearheaded a pet food drive for the Lebanon Soup Kitchen; was a passionate promoter for Lebanon's bid in the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights contest; and was one of the main organizers for the Connect for Lebanon event earlier this year. Whether supporting initiatives, encouraging others to get involved, or simply bringing a positive outlook to every project, Wyatt represents the kind of leadership and optimism that inspires those around him.

Michelle was awarded the Bill Rauch Unsung Hero Award. This award is given to someone "who goes above and beyond the call of duty and steps forward to serve others without seeking recognition or praise." She has served on the Lebanon City Council since 2019; was instrumental in helping the Legacy Club become established as a nonprofit organization; and has served as a JOYA liaison for 5+ years. She also played a key role in the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights contest as the school district's Communications Director.

Again, congratulations to Wyatt and Michelle for their dedication and service to our community.

Yes, you see that correctly: we are now the Lebanon Oregon Legacy Club!

After much discussion, our members voted to transition from the Lebanon Optimists to form our own local nonprofit organization. This change will allow us to better serve youth and families in our community.

So, why the change? As part of Optimist International (OI), our club did not hold local nonprofit standing. That made it difficult to raise funds and accept donations directly. By becoming our own nonprofit, we can manage donations locally and put them to work more effectively for Lebanon youth and our community. Several of our members already have experience starting and running nonprofits, so we’re ready for this step.

Also, by becoming our own local nonprofit, we are able to lower our membership fees and ensure those fees are staying local, and again, benefitting our community. This enables us to better support our programs and activities for kids right here at home.

Lastly, with our own nonprofit status, we can now apply for grants that were previously out of reach. Because our status was tied to OI, headquartered in Missouri, local grant applications often didn’t gain traction. As a locally recognized nonprofit, we’ll have more opportunities to secure funding for our projects.

The heart of our work remains the same: supporting youth and community here in Lebanon. This transition simply allows us to keep more resources here in our community and expand the opportunities we can provide. Thank you for supporting our Club and its future. We appreciate you Lebanon and look forward to continuing doing the good work we always have done -- today, tomorrow, and well into the future.
